  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

A friend of mine pointed these out to me:

Veronica: http://www.partycity.com/product/adult+archie+veronica+costume.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&navSet=109916
Betty: http://www.partycity.com/product/adult+archie+betty+costume.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&navSet=109916
Josie:  http://www.partycity.com/product/adult+josie+costume+-+archie.do?sortby=ourPicks&size=all&navSet=109916

Just made me shake my head.  The Josie costume really ticks me off.  Whoever designed that and whoever approved that design should spend some hard time in fashion jail.  It's pretty pathetic, because the original outfit would make such an awesome costume.  I don't know if that design ever appeared in the comic, but if it did, it still sucks.

And we know those Veronica and Betty costumes are Betty and Veronica costumes because they have their names on the ugly tops provided.  Brilliant!

So I'm assuming they released these adult costumes as some kind of tax write-off.  I can only see the Betty and Veronica ones being bought accidentally as generic cheerleader outfits by 40 year-olds.  Although, they're probably too ugly and un-sexy for that.

The name adult makes me think something else, :)  but anyways

Yeah, the Josie costume is horrible, if you wanted to keep it tame, why add the chest buntings ?

And the Betty and Ron costumes are even more unimaginative, come to think of it, I don't think either of them stuck to a dress long enough which could symbolise them, unlike Josie and the Pussycats.

I found Archie and Jughead costumes, the S sweater and crown are Jug's copyrights :

Although, I am really interested to know how does this guy walk :

The boob window makes me think of Power Girl, not Josie. And look closer - the Josie logo is on the dress.

She looks like a stewardess that works for Air Hillbilly.

I don't know why they had to go with a dress instead of showing more leg either.  This is the company that probably makes a good portion of its profit from swimsuit stories, and this is an adult costume.  Grow a spine, Archie Comics.

I think the rule of "if its not broken, don't fix it" certainly applies here.  They didn't even get the wig right.  It's pretty embarrassing.

That picture of that guy in the Jughead costume is also pretty disturbing.

They are pretty ugly but if you look at any Halloween costumes of famous characters, they're all usually pretty bad.  I'd guess that Archie either didn't exercise very much control over the final designs or they wanted to appeal to a more "adult" market to broaden the exposure of the characters to more people.

Regarding your "tax write off" post header, Archie licensed the character images to a costume manufacturer who is manufacturing and selling the costumes.  Archie either gets revenue or nothing but if they don't sell, the manufacturer loses out, not Archie.

It's called a joke.  I'm aware of how licenses work.  I was using sarcasm.

There's way better designed costumes of famous characters out there.  These are pretty lame for adult Halloween costumes. They should exercise more quality control over their licensed merchandise I think, because these are pretty sad and certainly not worth 50 bucks.

Don't you remember the early 1970's kid aimed Halloween costumes with masks of Archie, Josie, and Sabrina? This was at the time these had Saturday morning cartoon series.
