Help with Issue
« on: March 17, 2007, 09:55:29 PM »
Hey, i've been looking for an Archie comic that i use to have when i was younger but i don't remember much about it. One of the stories had to do with Betty babysitting this really bratty kid. She fell asleep watching TV and he gave her a hotfoot. I've looked all over but i can't find the issue number or anything. Please help, thanks! (I'm trying to rebuild my collection)

Can't help but this brings up another idea I have percolating...

An Archie database that lists each story and gives credit-- kind of like the GCD-- but also provides a search engine that can look up story titles, so we can see where all the digest reprints first showed up and where they were reprinted. As soon as I clear my schedule -- LOL  I kill myself, what a gag!-- I'll start on it... maybe do a wiki kind of thing so everyone can participate...

Betty getting a hotfoot during a babysitting session. Man, how many variations of this must exist! Sorry, but I don't think I have an exact match for this. It seems like something that could have been done over with minor variations a lot of times though.

If it helps, the cover had Archie and gang sitting in the Cafeteria. I just remembered that a few hours ago. Also, in another part of the story, Betty entered the boys room and didn't realize he was hiding under the bed.

Another issue i'm looking for has Veronica being chased by a bear on the cover.

Thanks!

R_Waters,

How old were you when you read it (approximately)? do you have an approximate year it came out? Might help to narrow the search,as well if it was a comic, a digest or a double digest as acf27 suggested...

When you say cafeteria, are you talking Pop's Choklit Shop or the school cafeteria?

I'll look at the covers on the GCD (www.comics.org) and see if I find anything. Another place to look is Lonstar Comics (www.mycomicshop.com). The problem here is that your looking for a needle in 65+ year, over 9400 issue haystack. Not impossible, but daunting...

Just looked though the Archie comics and Archie & Friends covers on the GCD and came with these. All are in Pop's Choklit Shop not the school cafteria though...

The other problem with the GCD is that not all the covers to any series have been posted... Lonestar Comics or Milehigh Comics might be better...

I'm thinking it could also be in Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica, the Archie Giant series, Laugh, or Pep, or 50 other titles...  :D

The issue was from the 60's. I can't tell you a definite year but i do know it was from the 60's. I thinkt he title might have been Betty and Veronica also.

Well, I'm stuck... I've looked through both the GCD covers and Lonestar's covers, concentrating on Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica and Archie Giant Series for all books from 1960 through 1974 and none feature either of the 2 scenes you describe (cafeteria or Veronica being chased by a bear)...

will try Pals and Gals, Laugh and Pep...

I got to thinking that a polar bear chasing Veronica has to mean one of the adventure titles.

***Let's try it again!

nope, that's a Jughead book... good idea checking the more serious books, jim

here's a veronica/bear cover... http://www.comics.org/coverview.lasso?id=212780&zoom=4 from Life with Archie, not indexed though... 20 cent cover would mean early to middle 70s...

Archie At Riverdale High, Pep and Laugh were all no go's....

While I don't recognize that cover, I'm almost positive that this book was reprinted in the Bantam Book "Archie The Adventurer." I remember the book being about seven stories long with Archie, Betty, and Veronica traveling around the world and getting involved in some great adventures.  Time for another Retro Review!!!! maybe tomorrow...
