If Archie was written out, who would be the "star"?
« on: October 17, 2006, 05:42:21 PM »
Okay, this is a big what-if question, but I thought it'd be fun to do. :)

Personally, I'd go with Betty. She's the everywoman, the female equivalent of Archie - only a lot more interesting and responsible.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

Geez...what a morbid question, Tuxedo Mark.  LOL!

I guess of all those choices, I'd probably go with Jughead.  Next to Archie, he's had more solo titles than any of the other characters, and he seems to be what I call the ultimate scene-stealer.

(But, for pure monetary value alone, Veronica could probably BUY her way to "star" billing.)

I personally want Betty, but I think it would more likely be Jughead because he's Archie's sidekick, of course.^_^

Offline archiecomicsfan27

i picked jughead since he seems to be archies best friend

but id love any of the others....specially reggie or cheryl since they dont get lots of attention as the other 4 do

When I saw the subject heading, I thought you wanted to know which character would work best if they were outed. Now that would be a very special story!

But I picked Jughead just because I enjoy him the most. Realistically, I think they'd have to either introduce another love triangle or have the focus be on either Betty or Veronica. But even if it's one of those two, it's just not the same. The dynamics of the Archie world hinge too much on him. There's just no way they could do without him.

I'm going to go with the majority here and vote for Jughead. He's my favorite character (besides Archie of course).

And the instant Archie ceases to exist, so will the Archie comics.:/

He's the hub of the whole Archie universe.

Are you asking this, Mark, 'cause you don't like Archie??? :P

Anyway, since the triangle wouldn't exist without Archie, I'd suggest a new pairing that ronnie343 and Ginny would love...

Jughead and Betty... the non conformist and the girl next store. There's a wealth of story ideas there...

Gregg

Offline Ginny

Gregg, you're right. I love that pairing. I really would not like it if there was a love triangle between Jughead, Betty and Veronica. Maybe Veronica could date Reggie since Archie is no linger there.

I couldn't see Veronica even having any interest in Juggie... Now a Moose/Midge/Veronica/Dilton/Ethel trapezoid could be funny...

or not... :)

(obviously its WWWWAYYY too early for bad humor...)

The egomaniac and the girl next door also  has  a wealth of ideas there as wel. I think Reggie/ Betty/Jughead triangle would be awesome. Reggie and Jughead are both popular matches for Betty and  they proved in the past they can be superb rivals to each other. I could see loads of entertaining stories coming from that.

There have been a fair few stories where Veronica and Jughead have kissed, and even gone on a date here and there. I can think of 2-3 different stories, where, despite any previous misgivings, Veronica found herself quite smitten with Jughead. In each one though, it's usually Veronica who realizes, often with shock, that she really likes Jughead as a potential boyfriend. She inevitably snaps out of it when he inevitably thwarts her advances.

I can't see there ever being much of a connection between Moose and anyone else, even though there's been a story where Moose is convinced by Archie that he's a ladies man. Moose then asks Betty and Veronica out... as well as every other girl in Riverdale. But, Midge tends to always be the girl who's sought after in that dynamic. Since there are so many stories of Moose and Dilton being close friends, I can't really picture a situation where Dilton would be insane enough to try dating Midge.

Perhaps a Moose/Midge/Reggie/new-character scenario would work? Cheryl was introduced to bring another female lead to the traditional triangle - does Adam count as the male addition, or does Jason Blossom?
