So you must be the real Gisele. The Archie Meets The Ramones cover is one of my favorites. Actually I just really like the way you draw the Archie characters in general.

Thanks, The Bee! :)

In my opinion the best variant cover by far.

I read Gisele's post and i don't think she said she couldn't do one, I think she said she wouldn't be asked.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I'm considered "classic style" over at Archie (even if I can draw in other styles,) and they have this rule in place it seems that artists that are considered "classic style" are not asked. I guess they have their reasons. So yeah, don't blame me! I'm sure they'll print a bunch of blank sketch covers which for the most part will be used by classic style Archie artists to draw on. Funny when you think about it.

First and foremost you should be considered as an artist. Not just one style of artist. I imagine as you went through your art training you learned many styles of art. I don't understand what goes on in the minds of the executives most of the time at ACP.

One of the worst things Archie Comics ever did was put us in the position of having to categorize ourselves as "Classic Archie" artists. We ALL used to be just Archie artists and everyone knew what that meant. Now we're Classic Archie artists or Reboot Archie artists. It's horrible, horrible branding!

Gisele

When I draw for Archie, I force myself to be a bit more on model ('cause that's what's expected of me,) but I try to make it my own (so people know it's me.) With that said, yeah, I CAN draw Archie not on model. It's actually easier! :)

Archie USED to value artists who can draw their characters on model. Not anymore!

Being as I'm probably the last "classic style" Archie artist to somewhat enter the fold, I have to say that I felt they were a bit too strict with that at times. I know I never got much work there because I rebelled a bit and didn't follow it to a T (and yes, I know that there wasn't much work to go around to begin with.) I think character model sheets help, but so long as you know who's who (and it's cute,) I think it's OK. Archie Comics were never really able to find artists that drew exactly alike anyway. Even when we try to follow it, we'll never be DeCarlo (so give it a rest, right?) If they ever revert back to the classic style, I hope they'll cut us a bit of slack (if we're asked back) considering the current output.

I find it really crazy that they were extremely strict back then with what they called the character model. Each artist has there own style which in my opinion is what makes art great. Like you said no one is going to be Dan DeCarlo.

I also find it crazy as I feel they must have slacked off quite a bit in the new rebooted series with trying to have a similar look between the artists that have done these books. With each artist change there seems to be a drastic change in the art style some good and some bad in my opinion. So it is either because they haven't developed that character model yet for the reboot or they just don't care anymore.

I think the people that followed Fiona tried to copy her a bit but all & all, I think character models are out the window for this reboot. It's also probably why the "classic style artists" aren't asked to touch this in any way as what we'll produce might slightly look like the classic style. It has to be "All New, All Different... Archie!"

It seems like they don't care what it looks like, or for narrative consistency, or anything as long as it's different — like throwing things at the wall to see what sticks ...

In my opinion if the other Artists that have followed Fiona attempted to follow her style they failed miserably. Every time they change an artist it seems like a drastic change in style and consistency which is really turning me off to the entire project which I really wasn't that hyped for to begin with.

I actually thought Fiona Staples was the weakest art of the Archie reboot so far.  My favorite is Veronica Fish and I'm glad they made her the permanent artist.
