We're up to 16 members on the Facebook group.  That's pretty good I think.  Considering that it's only been around a few days.

If 16 people are passionate enough to join the Facebook group - how many more care about the title, but are just being silent?

I guess sales is the ultimate measure of success in business - and we have to respect that, but I really wonder if a dozen or so issues might still be worth doing - at least until #100.

Oooo!  Things are heating up!  The group has gotten about 11 new members in less than 2 hours!  Keep letting your friends know and post in the other forums that you frequent.

I hope that Archie Comics may decide to let us get at least to issue #100 with this series.

Here's the deal as I see it.

Every comic artist has a path of evolution.  In many cases, an artist will work with and learn a style of art from one of the greats.  There are many artists that used Ditko, Kirby, and Adams as folks to admire and then "came into their own" over time.

When we look at the greats such as Carl Barks and Walt Kelly, we can see the Rosa's and Jeff Smith's of today working from a common starting point and evolving their skills and the community forward. Don't even get me started on Eisner.

Why does this come up here?  I think the current group of Archie artists has the potential to take Archie Comics (and us fans) somewhere very special in comics history.

B&V Spectacular is a book that shows an artist evolving.  Some may not enjoy the style as much (hello TM), but many do.  Take B&V Spectacular #69 to present and place them end-to-end.  Notice something?  I notice an artist becoming a true "voice" in the medium.  So - jumping-up-and-down fanboy aside :)  I think this title is good for Archie Comics.

It's different in a good way.

Whenever I see it on the newsstand - it's always well-thumbed.  Sadly, sales would be better if the copies weren't damaged by so many people looking at them!

They should do the next issues with a trading card in them and shrink-wrap them to prevent "newsstand readers" from messing them up.  Then we'd see sales increase!

It's actually pretty amazing the reaction I am getting outside of Archie fandom.
There's a forum over at CGC comics where some pretty "heavy hitter" collectors hang-out.  We're talking about they type of collector that posts things like "only 5 more Timely books and I have them all".....crazy stuff.

Anyhow - there is a thread there where folks can post Archie covers they like.  Plenty of older material.  I posted B&V Spectacular #85 and got some comments that were very positive.

People really LIKE this comic.  Obviously, they should also BUY more copies, but I think this will happen in time.

The truth is - this title didn't get it's current format change all that long ago.  Issue #69 to be exact.  This means that if they cancel at issue #90 - the new format only had a 21 issue run.  Not very much.

I really hope Archie Comics will see the fans like this book and will give it another 10 issues to #100 at the least.

I just mentioned this over at the Facebook page but I thought it'd be worth bringing it up here too.

Last week when I mentioned the Save Betty & Veronica Spectacular Facebook page up at the Archie offices, I was told the book had missed being spared from cancellation by only a few hundred copies. That isn't really an insurmountable number. For example, the Facebook page has eighty-five members, if each member bought ten copies a piece of the remaining issues that would be eight-hundred and fifty copies! That would certainly get noticed up at the offices!

Come on! Let's make B&VSpec the Spider Girl of Archie Comics!

This is actually great news and I hope it comes to pass.  I really don't expect everyone to buy 10 copies in this tough economic times, but I will!

On the Facebook page, I stated that I think this book can make it on it's own with just a little more time - 10 issues.  So, my motto is 10 for 10!

I'll plan on giving the extras I get away as gifts and at Halloween next year.

Okay - I've done my bit and asked for 10 copies a month on this book.  Hopefully, this will come to pass.  I know a lot of people that I can hand a copy to that would appreciate it - so it works for me.

Again - I also understand that not everyone can do this - even just buying one copy a month helps!

Wow!  We are at 91 members now.  This is great and we are getting close to triple digits.  I think that if we get to 100 members then it will make an even bigger impression on the folks at Archie Comics.

I haven't sent them an update for awhile, but I can see that there are several people keeping them informed (thanks).

So far, I haven't gotten an e-mail acknowledging my comment submissions, but I am not sure if they normally would respond or not.

It's great to see how many people really like this title.  Diamond sales that I saw in January seemed to place this book as a better direct sales seller then many other Archie books.  It made the list of Diamond's top 300 - which not all books seem to do.

I've got most issues of this comic.  I always thought it interesting the way Archie comics gave the comic book kind of a magazine twist.  It was a little like what they did with Archie's Mechanics in the 1950's.

The one thing that I think put's it at risk for lower sales is that, by redesigning it into a magazine format, it looks like it's clearly aimed at female readers only.  Unfortunately that would be a turn off to young male fans of Archie comics.

I hope that they can be convinced to keep it alive.

There are two problems with digital comics:
1. No physical copy to carry with you and read wherever you want it.
2. Once you cancel your subscription, you no longer have access to the comics.

In addition, B&V Spectacular targets young girls who wouldn't have a way to pay for such a subscription.

Bad move on Archie's part.

I completely agree.  They should have kept both methods of print open to the public.  As someone who is financially incapable of buying an Ipod or a cell phone or some other method of downloading digital comics, this is a blow.

I for one am getting tired of everything having to be done by computer.

...Did B&V Digest #202 use the material from the " digital-only  :'(" B&V Spectacular ish ?????????
I guess I said this elsewhere , then , I do think Archie's demographic/audience would have an above-average amount of people , young families and " not the richest " people , who , even if thay don't literally have NO computer access , would have relatively little/perhaps not owning one/" no time-money for frivolous computer use "( or buying a digital comic for the hard drive , if that's what it amounts to ...)... :(

The Archie Digests and Double Digest are a mix of original and reprint material.   We put a lot of effort into making sure that material is not printed in any format more than a acertain amount of times in a certain amount of year. What is reprint is probably obvious to this forum, as you're all pretty hardcore :)

I checked B&V Digest #202 - the first story is original, written specifically for that issue. The second seems to be a reprint in the same style, so it is possible that it was originally published in a B&V Spectacular.  HOWEVER, the only B&V Spectacular content that is exclusively digital at this time, are those following issue #90.

So the short answer is no, lol. Similar style, as Dan Parent was pretty exclusively the B&V Spectacular artist, but not the same material.

I love computers - it's my career.
I love digital books - much easier to read.

I do NOT like digital comics.  They are nice on the iPad, but not as nice as printed copies.  They need to bring this book back.....

I will say this - Archie Comics was very kind in replying to my e-mails.  In fact, I daresay they seemed pretty impressed at the initial reaction on Facebook and the power of social media (at one point, we even had a YouTube video trying to save the book).

They "sort of" brought the book back by coming out with a magazine comic - which is a great start - now we just need some of the regular Archie artists working on it. (and me writing it - but that's another thing ;)

According to Firefox (which, in most cases, gives much more useful error messages than IE), the security certificate expired on October 26th. Surprised that they would let a month go by without renewing it!

Hmmm... it looks like my subscription auto-renewed for the site.  So I have another year of reading digital books.  It's "okay" - I have gotten somewhat used to it on the computer and iPad, but I still need paper copies when/where available.
