  • JugheadJonesIII: I've contacted them multiple times, dozens in fact, they say the same thing...  Well tell our shipping and subscription dept. about this, so sorry.  Well, after several months, I call them again, and they say the same thing!  So fed up! *Hulk smash*

  • Archie Comics Collector: @irishmoxie-If the outside of Archie #2 came in rough shape then its an issue with the post office not Archie that caused the problem but Archie will replace.  Also digests do not come months late. I subscribe to everything Archie produces and Digests have not been months late but weeks late.

  • spazaru: I think y'all are just really unlucky on the digest thing.  If they don't answer and e-mail, call them.  I've been subscribing to digests for years and have had like 3 come late and those were replaced immediately.

  • irishmoxie: Surprisingly my Archie #1 came in good shape, it was packed with a cardboard back and came on the release date. But the Archie #2 was in rough shape and about 3 weeks late. They must've changed printers/distributors.
  • irishmoxie: It's probably fine to get digests from them if you don't mind if they are months late. But for floppies...As a collector/fan, usually we like to read things on release day and in pristine condition.

  • irishmoxie: I've sent them emails which they don't always answer. The company has been in business for so long. It's a shame their customer service and packaging is so terrible. Now I understand why people have pull lists at their local comic stores even though the idea of one sounds a bit archaic!

Athena,

Thanks for giving me back the Betty I grew up with!

And, Surprise, your comments about Betty and Jughead in the older stories are right on!

I loved seeing these panels... from back when Betty had more bite to her! I love the Betty of the 1950's into the 60's... while mostly sweet, there was a bit of bitterness too! And she was not above scheming with Reggie to break up Archie & Veronica! The modern Betty is fine, but I often wish she had some of her old personality. (Let's face it, while I enjoy the modern stories, the characters all get along too well. They're not as well rounded as they used to be.)

;D  I'm glad you enjoy them as much as I do-- I also feel that somehow over the years much of the versatility in Betty's character has been lost, and I wanted to collect some panels that show some of her old capricious spirit.

Also, in general I'm finding that I enjoy appreciating the artwork within just a panel or two... many of the best panels can capture the essence of an entire story.

No wonder Betty SCARES Archie so much.XD

And that stuff SHOULD be good homework for any serious Archie artists, BTW. Such great character development would indeed take away the icky taste of "kiddie" label, IMHO.

I seem to recall a few instances in which Reggie and Betty scheme together so that Reggie can have Veronica and Betty can have Archie...but more often than not, they end up having th eplan blow up in their faces!  :)

squuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!  thanks Athena!  I'm in my happy place!  :)

now if only those two would stop scheming together to get with archie and veronica and just realize that they're the one's for each other.

archie's a poop, only going for betty when he's afraid of losing his little back up date.

Betty was much crazier in the old days, especially when Frank Doyle was writing her. Not only did it give her more "bite" to her personality and make her a funnier character, but it helped explain why Archie wasn't always interested in her: it wasn't because of Veronica's money, it's because Betty is kind of crazy and clingy. Just look at what she does when she's merely thinking about what she'll do to Archie:

"play it safe panels"

Also, from the first "Superteen" story, two panels: one what Betty fantasizes about doing if she was a superhero:

"superteen panels 1"

And the other about what she's actually doing in "real" life.

"superteen 6a"

"betty blockhead"

And to show that this side of Betty survived into the '80s (especially when Frank Doyle was writing):

"betty pain in the"

"betty blockhead"

If Betty was still written like this I'd buy 10 copies of her titles every month!

That's a promise from me to you, Archie Comics!  ;)
