What titles do you collect and why?
« on: February 15, 2010, 07:21:29 PM »
What titles do you get? Old or new I guess.

Here is mine:
I have been reading the 32-page Jughead comic consistently for five years.  I occasionally would pick up an Archie or Jughead Digest book at the supermarket but they are hard to find these days.  I just started collecting the 32-page Archie title again after taking a break for a few years.  I also am trying a subscription to Jughead's Double Digest.

If I ever find an old school Archie comic collection at a convention or comic book store I try to get a few.  It's hard to find old issues of Pep, Laugh, Josie and Sabrina I've noticed.

Pretty much any and all of the digest formats.

The Betty and Veronica Digests and Double Digests, all appearances of Cheryl Blossom, and (when I'm in a city that has them), the Betty, Veronica, and Betty and Veronica pamphlet titles.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

The only title I collect specifically is Life With Archie, because I like the older full-length "epic" stories that were originally published in that title, as well as the superhero and spy ("The Boy From R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E.") stories that were published in the mid-60s.

I try to collect mostly Jughead Double Digest, Jughead and Friends Digest and Jughead monthly. The second title I collect is Archie, Archie Double Digest and Archie Digest. The other digests I usually only get when there's a sale or an interesting story/cover.

What do you like about Pep more than the other core titles from that time period?

Well, Pep 22 through 65 have both Archie and the Golden Age MLJ superheroes (Hangman, Shield, Black Hood). The run of Pep from about 1956 through 1963 has the best series of Harry Lucey and Bob White covers of any of the Archie titles. Finally, you get a variety of characters in each issue, not just the title characters that are in most of the other titles.

I mainly collect any of the Double Digests & Jughead and Friends. I also collect the "GIANT" series that from the 70s-90s? period. But I have all types in my collection.
When it comes to food Archie Comics, I'm an expert.

I buy every new title, both digest and comic.  (but not Sonic).  And other than that, I just buy old stuff if the cover looks intriguing to me.  I tend to focus my collecting on the late 70s and early 80s.

I completely agree with the comments on Pep.  Pep from 1956 into the early 1960's is also a very tough run of books to complete.  The stories and art in them embody everything I love about Archie comics from the 1950's in terms of the humor, the art style, etc.

I collect all the Archie titles until about 1960 and after that period, I'm not as focused on completing runs.  I also collected all the odd-ball tiles that were released in the late 80's, early 90's such as Jughead's Time Police, Archie 3000, and all the other titles that had limited runs.

Well, Pep 22 through 65 have both Archie and the Golden Age MLJ superheroes (Hangman, Shield, Black Hood). The run of Pep from about 1956 through 1963 has the best series of Harry Lucey and Bob White covers of any of the Archie titles.
