Thanks Tuxedo. I'm not sure I like the Veronica one. We might change it if we find something better.

Here's another article I started:

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Category:Books  -- I'll finish it tomorrow with synopses and images. I also re-edited the Main Page. See if you like it....

thanks, Tuxedo. But between last night and today, I scrapped most of my original ideas and completely re-did the category. I understand now that the category acts as a page link.

I'm working on indexing all of the Riverdale high books, the Bantam reprint books and the two hard covers. after that, I'll work on something else... maybe the Mary Smith books or some more of the ashcan books.

Using category:comics and category:digests I could also set up the titles for everyone else to start filling in as they can.

And I'm linking just about everything and everyone in the Archieverse so that others can have some fun too. Just some ideas...

Just a few general ideas since I'm at work right now...

Please put the "Comics" and "Digests" categories in the "Titles" category so they can be sub-categories of titles (makes navigation easier).

Stories will need to be separate from issues since stories can be in multiple issues and we won't always know which issue a story first appeared in.

I'm not sure how exactly we're going to do things now that we've killed the custom namespaces (I was originally going to have all titles in the Titles namespace, etc.), but I think for stories and issues, something like this will work:

Issues:
Create an "Issues" sub-page off of the main title page (.../Title_Name/Issues). Using the dynamic pages extension (once we start using templates, which I will explain tomorrow when I have more time), we could then pull in all issues from that particular title on that page, listing release date, price, etc. Then, we do sub-sub pages - .../Title_Name/Issues/{issue_number} - this makes the structure a lot clearer and easier to find (I'll need to play with things to make sure we can set custom page titles for sub-pages - I don't want Betty and Veronica #8 to be titled "Betty and Veronica/Issues/8").

Stories - This would require the installation of another extension, but basically this would be a search form that would interact with the dynamic pages extension - users could plug in a year, writer, etc. and find all stories matching that criteria. The individual story pages would be branched off of this - .../Stories/Name.

Sounds good, Oldiesmann. I was wondering how we were going to do this.

Just for the record, there are a couple of pages that need to be deleted. The titles when link can't have apostrophes in them cause they get all weird. if you look at  http://wiki.archiefans.com/Category:Books  under "R" you'll see two titles (Rich Girls Don\\\\). also the Archie\\\ and the Pop\\\ should be killed to. both had apostrophes in the titles.

Under "all pages"  http://wiki.archiefans.com/Special:Allpages  I also found the original Timely Tale and Betty Cooper pages. Those might have to go as well.

If we link the characters common names to their main articles (Reggie points to Reggie Mantle, Betty points to Betty Cooper) will this conflict with the comic titles of the same name? I was linking common names to full character sheets but stopped 'cause I wasn't sure how the titles would be affected.

Have you given any thought to books that share names? (Jughead v1. and v.2, Archie's Pal Jughead v.1 and v.2, Laugh, v.1 and v.2) Will there be conflict there? Also are we going to go by the indicia name or the cover name or a combination of both? I think the Archie Giant series should be listed as Archie Giant, but I can see all 4 Jughead books simply being combined and called Jughead vol.1 and Jughead vol. 2. Adventures of Little Archie (tpb and normal titles) will have problems here too.

I'm going to be working on the books section for a while getting them all indexed and such. I figure when that's done we'll have some of these other issues worked out and we can start on the titles.

I'm not sure why it's screwing up articles with apostrophes in the title. Those seem to work fine on Wikipedia, so I'll have to look into that one more.

For now you can link "Reggie" and such to character names. If we want to do the titles later, we can either change those pages or just do something like "Reggie_(title)" instead. Your choice :)

For titles like Jughead, Archie's Pal Jughead, etc., we can simply have a main page indicating that there were two series published with that name and linking to each one ("Jughead (1965 Series)", etc.).

For trade paperbacks that share the same name as a comic series, we can do "Title (TPB)" to distinguish them from the series of the same name.

Archie Giant Series is a tough one, but I think we can handle that with redirection pages. The main articles can go under Archie_Giant_Series/Issues/x and we can simply redirect from the title page:

World_of_Jughead/Issues/9 would redirect to Archie_Giant_Series/Issues/9
Archies_Christmas_Stocking/Issues/6 would redirect to Archie_Giant_Series/Issues/6

At some point we'll need to decide when the actual "end" of the Archie Giant Series title was, since they eventually just published several regular titles in that "series", but we can deal with that later.

Now, as I promised, on to the templates :)

There are several templates available for your use:

Issuebox - used on the pages about specific issues of a title. The "title", "issuenumber" and "date" parameters are required. All others are optional. If you specify an image, it will need to be the name of an image uploaded through the "Upload File" page.

Titlebox - used on the pages about a specific title. Title is required. Format should be something like "digest", "double digest", etc. We can discuss the possibilities for this later on.

Creator - used on pages about artists, writers, etc. Currently their name and birthdate are required, but I need to change that (since you won't always know when they were born).

Templates are easy to use - just copy the code in the box on the template page and fill in the blanks. If you don't have information for a particular parameter, just leave it blank and it won't be used. These should be placed at the beginning of the article (or near the beginning anyway).

well, I was supposed to be shopping but got involved in this one:

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Best_of_Josie_and_The_Pussycats

adapted from my GCD index, but streamlined and tagged for this project. I think it turned out pretty good.

I also loaded some more covers to the graphic novels see http://wiki.archiefans.com/Category:Books. Lots of cool stuff there now...

More updates...

I installed two new extensions:

CategoryTree - this will allow us to have the fun little "[+]" and "[-]" symbols next to sub-categories on category pages.

Page Functions - This fun extension will allow us to change page titles - so instead of "Betty_and_Veronica/Issues/2", we can do "Betty and Veronica #2".

In addition, the "Stub Manager" extension which is required for the Page Functions extension installed several other extensions. See http://wiki.archiefans.com/Special:Version for a complete list of extensions that are installed (note that I don't know what some of these extensions do yet).

I think the best approach would be to have the first names be the title articles and just have a little notice at the top like "This article is about the title. For the character, see Reggie Mantle." I did something similar in the Betty article.

For titles like Jughead, Archie's Pal Jughead, etc., we can simply have a main page indicating that there were two series published with that name and linking to each one ("Jughead (1965 Series)", etc.).

Well, I was thinking something like a notice at the top of a page. For example, at the top of the Betty and Veronica article would be "This article is about Volume 2. For Volume 1, see Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica." If two volumes of a character's title don't have the exact same name, there's no need to have a special page just to link to each volume.

An exception can be made for "Cheryl Blossom", though, since there were multiple series with that exact title.

I think of BnV -- the current one-- as volume 1 'cause there wasn't a title like that before. The previous incarnation was Archie's Girls, BnV.

More specifically I was thinking of Cheryl (who's had 4 series under the name "Cheryl Blossom"), Josie and the Pussycats (2 volumes), Sabrina the Teenaged witch (2 volumes if I recall), Archie's Pal Jughead (2 volumes) and Jughead (2 volumes). There was also 2 volumes of BnV Annual digest, but the 2nd volume came after the first had changed its name to BnV Digest.

I look at Archie Giant Series as one long series with revolving features...kind of like the Silver Age Brave and the Bold, or Marvel Premiere or Marvel Spotlight of the '70s. The numbering is odd, but I think with some redirecting --as you said Oldiesmann-- we can get people where they want to go...

A few more updates...

The issue with apostrophes and certain other characters seems to be caused by a PHP setting called magic_quotes_gpc. Basically, when enabled, this setting causes PHP to automatically escape certain characters in the URL and in data sent from a form. Unfortunately, due to the way PHP is configured on this server, I can't disable this setting for that directory. I will ask my host about disabling this and/or see if we can move to a different server with a different PHP setup to fix this issue (the PHP setup on this server is required for some software so they can't reconfigure it here).

The issue with & is a general bug with the feature that rewrites the URLs. I am looking into what (if anything) we can do to eliminate this issue.

taking a wiki break tomorrow, then plan on working on some more of the Bantam books. I did add images to all the graphic novels out there. I think I'll import My GCD index for archie's Christmas stories classics, then start working onthe two hard covers.

Having fun with all this, though... :)

Problems!!!

Wiki will no longer accept any edits. I try to do anything and i get this message:

Your edit has been rejected because your client mangled the punctuation characters in the edit token. The edit has been rejected to prevent corruption of the article text. This sometimes happens when you are using a buggy web-based anonymous proxy service.

Don't know what it is 'cause nothing has changed for me since I was onthis morning...
