I have decided to go ahead and launch the wiki. It still needs quite a bit of work in the backend (I haven't created the privacy policy or copyright pages yet, the disclaimer is pretty generic and I'm still using the default logo), but I feel it's more important to go ahead and give everyone access so you can get started working on the fun stuff.

The wiki is located at http://wiki.archiefans.com - those of you who are registered on the forum will automatically be registered there. If you are still seen as a guest even though you're logged in to the forum, you will need to log out of the forum and log back in again. This is due to a change in the way cookies are stored that I made a while back - the change makes cookies from the main site work for the subdomain too Smiley

A few basics before you get started:

Do not copy information from Wikipedia. You may use it as a reference, as long as you mention this in your article, but you may not copy information from Wikipedia as it is under a different license than the one I'm using.

Please place things in their proper namespace:

Titles: all articles about a particular title published by Archie Comics (example: Betty and Veronica would be .../Titles:Betty_and_Veronica)
Stories: all articles about a particular story (.../Stories:Story_Name)

Any articles on a particular issue of a title should be created as a subpage of that title's main page:

Betty and Veronica #1 would be created as .../Titles:Betty_and_Veronica/Issue_1 (the "Issue" helps clarify what the article is about)

All other articles go in the main namespace and do not require a specific prefix.

For now we just need to focus on getting the articles started - we can fill in details and add references later on.

Where do you think we should start Oldiesmann? I can see some HTML links for titles --a complete list on the front page might not be bad-- or maybe just an HTML saying comics then breaking that up between comics and digests.  Maybe another for various misc stuff (like books, magazines, cartoons, Hostess ads, toys, all the non comic book related stuff.) A creators' link, a character's who's who link, etc. might be feasible as well.

We may have to set up some examples so that everyone else can follow suit.

I'm a bit confused.

I created these 2 articles:

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Titles:Betty

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Character:Betty_Cooper

Is this correct? The titles look odd like that.

I moved the articles to Betty and Betty_Cooper, respectively.

Please let me know which way is correct before I do anything else.

Hmm, we might still have some issues... I can't see any of the things Tuxedo added yesterday. Suggestions?

I added a list of items on the portal but wasn't sure if that was needed or not. I also tried to make them html links without success.

Might need a FAQ for the wiki...

Characters go in the main namespace - http://wiki.archiefans.com/Betty_Cooper

Titles are supposed to have the "Titles:" part in front of them. I did it that way because it makes it easier to search for titles. I'll fix things shortly Smiley

Ok. Moved the contents of the "Betty" article to the "Titles:Betty" article.

I can set up a new section of the forum for discussing wiki stuff if you'd like, or we can just talk on the wiki itself.

I know that "Titles:Betty" looks weird, but that will narrow things down. When you're searching, if you want to search for a title, you can just search everything in the "Titles" namespace. I have a similar setup for stories.

If you think that the namespace things make it more confusing, we can change things around - we'll just need to have notices like "This article is about the comic book. For information on the character, see (link to Betty Cooper article)"

What exactly are you trying to do Gregg?

If you're trying to add links to your post, you have a couple of options:

1. Just type the URL (this will create a link using the URL as the text)
2. title

I haven't implemented any code to link to the wiki pages.

That would be a lot better. Please move Title:Betty back to Betty. The contents of the article itself will make it clear that it's about the title.

Never mind. I see you've already moved it back.

I did add a notice at the top with a link to the Betty Cooper article.

As for the Betty Cooper article, I'm having a weird problem. I added her formal given name (Elizabeth) and put Betty in quotes (since it's a nickname). However, every time that I go to save the article, it creates a line break between the first quotation mark and the B. I've encountered this problem on our wiki before.

Also, another problem is that, upon saving an article, some of the linked words will double, such as:

Archie Comic Book PublicationsArchie Comic Book Publications

Can we add category tags at the bottom of articles, like on Wikipedia?

Ok I played around and created a few:

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Titles:Archie_and_Friends_A_Timely_Tale

and

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Titles:Adventures_of_Little_Archie_%28TPB%29

and I redid the portal

http://wiki.archiefans.com/Archie_Comics_Wiki:Community_Portal

I understand now that the coding is different. I did try to load an image on to the Timely take book, but it didn't work. Also the correct title is Archie & Friends but the wiki didn't like the & symbol, so I changed it.
