Gallery Installed
« on: February 13, 2007, 05:37:24 PM »
By popular request, I have added a photo gallery.

To access it, simply click the "Gallery" link in the forum menu.

The first time you access the gallery, you'll be asked to enter your forum password - this is simply so your forum password can be used for your gallery account. Technically a password isn't needed since the gallery is embedded, but if I ever set it up to allow external access to the gallery, you'll have a password to use to login with :)

Rules:
Try to keep things in the appropriate album.
Don't upload anything that would violate copyright laws
Please don't use the gallery as a storage place for images that you want to show on other sites - Use PhotoBucket or a similar site for that

Everyone has permission to view images, ratings and comments.
Registered members have permission to rate items, upload things, comment on things and send eCards
You can print photos through Shutterfly in the Your Collection album (I may add this elsewhere as well)

Try to use descriptive titles, keywords, etc.
Currently there are no image or file size limits - don't abuse this or I will add limits

If you run into an error or have a question about how something works, let me know.

If you want your own user album, simply click the "Your Album" link in the upper right-hand corner of the Gallery.

Use the "Gallery Image" button to post images from the gallery in the forum.

Enjoy!

Gallery has been temporarily disabled due to database problems. I have contacted my host about the issues, but I am not sure how long it will take to resolve the issues as they are beyond my control. I will enable the gallery again as soon as the issues are resolved.

Sorry for any inconvenience :)

Just a quick update on this...

The information in the tables that got messed up has been lost. I still have the photos and information about album structure, but because most of the database info got lost, it won't be that easy to restore these. I will download the photos and save them to my computer in case anyone still needs them.

I am in the middle of fixing christianindieforums.com right now - the topics and members tables there got messed up, so I am manually restoring this data using information from other tables. Once this is done, I will reinstall the gallery and get things set up here again.

Just another quick note. My host is currently doing some planned server maintenance, so you will get a really ugly error if you try to access the gallery right now. It's not really breaking anything on the forum though, so I'm just going to leave it enabled. I don't know how long the server maintenance will last, but I would expect things to be back to normal by tomorrow sometime. In the mean time, go enjoy the new games I installed in the arcade :P

It's not a problem with the gallery this time. It's just due to a temporary change in the server configuration while they work on fixing some things. Everything should be back to normal soon, and the gallery will be back up as soon as they put the server back the way it was.

I'll email them again and see if they know how much longer it's going to be. I think the problem is fixed now, but they might be waiting to see if they can figure out what caused it to begin with.

Everything's back to normal now, and the gallery is working fine (although I noticed that I forgot to tell it to create user albums in the "User Albums" section again...).

Gallery is down again due to more server-related issues (host has changed the way PHP runs again - I'm waiting to see if they can change the ownership of the gallery's data folder).

Not sure how long things will be down this time, but I will do everything I can to make the downtime as short as possible.

More details will be posted after I hear back from my host.

Try clicking the little "+" button on the right-hand side of the "SMF Shoutbox" bar. You probably collapsed it by accident.

Also, on an unrelated note, forum time has been adjusted for daylight savings time. Adjust your time offset in your profile (under "Look and Layout Options") as needed.

It's timing out while it's trying to write to the history file (because it's unable to due to a weird permissions issue on the server right now).

I've just disabled the history feature for now. If you really like the history feature, I'll set it up to pull history from the database instead since that's faster and doesn't rely on file permissions.
