"A Storm Over Uniforms"
« on: August 06, 2008, 01:00:45 PM »
Anyone know about the 3-issue story called "A Storm Over Uniforms"? Part 1 & 2 were in Jughead # 100 Part 3 & 4 were in Archie # 467 and the conclusion was in Betty # 57 (I only have Archie # 467 so I have no idea how it started or ended, just have the middle (Sabrina's in it too))!! You can read the first three pages of Archie # 467 at Mile High...

Here are the covers to the story:

Ah....school uniforms.  The eternal debate.  When I was younger and wore ah...ahem...er...."punk" clothing...I was all against school uniforms.  Many times I would see the young ladies from the school across the street and shout at them: "Take off that uniform!"

Now that I am an old dad wearing Dockers, I like the idea of uniforms because it takes away the element of a class system and the stress (especially for young women) on what they are wearing, rather than what they are studying.

Which makes the cover to Betty look odd.  If *anyone* was against uniforms, I would think Veronica would be. She can afford to upstage anyone's clothing.
No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.

I remember this story from like ten years ago. It was good. I think it was even reprinted in the digests about four years ago.

Veronica was in support of uniforms because, being a blueblood, she thought they gave Riverdale High a much-needed touch of class. That, and Mr. Lodge showed her the rough designs of what the uniforms looked like, and she thought they were gorgeous.

I had to wear uniforms 'til I got to high school, and, while I was probably too style-stunted to ever really care much about having to wear a uniform, I know that it really bothered my sister. She was *very* upset about not being allowed to wear a Billabong jacket (which was all the rage at the time) to school. I'm definitely not a Veronica when it comes to my wardrobe, I don't think there's much variety in my day-to-day clothing, and I'm fine with that. :)

I guess I could say that I know all about this.  Never had to deal with it in high school, but at my workplace, we have a dress code that only allows two colours.  Black and White.  The two most drab colours in the whole world.  Hate it!

But, I do see where it adds a sense of decorum to the place, and there is no need to "outdo" someone.

BUT I MISS COLOURS!!!!!

I'm sure you'd look quite dashing in a lovely blue bonnet with a smattering of vibrant yellow flowers! :2funny: That can't be against the dress code! :)

In regards to the covers, I like that they're all similar with a main character off-center in the foreground. They look like they'd make a nice series of posters or movie jackets or something.

It's kind of silly for Jughead to be throwing away his hat too, as if school was the only place he wears it.

I hope the people at Archie Comics at least understand how boring the characters would look in uniforms all the time at school and had the students vote against it.

I'm sure it would be difficult since one of the ways that manga comics get away with all their characters being in matching uniforms is with various hair colors and styles. So many of the Archie characters look alike, it's only their hair color/style that differentiates them, that it might actually work.

Good point.  You can always pick out Archie, Betty, and Jughead...the others, well, not so much. :)

Ah, uniforms... Loved them while I was at school, now currently the bane of my existence (*cough* Singapore Armed Forces *cough*)... At least they take away the problem of deciding what to wear for each single day of the week (not that my wardrobe is huge; it's not).

I also remember reading the first part of the story in a Double Digest. Details aside, how did the story end?
Zach uses:

Guitars: Washburn WV16 (shown in display pic), Cort X6, Godin BG5 5-string bass, Squire P-Bass, Squire P-Bass Special

Equipment: Ashdown Engineering, Marshall, Smokey Amplification, EMG, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, BOSS, EHX, Digitech, Ibanez, Jim Dunlop, Ernie Ball Strings

Jughead's Pseudo World Tour (rated T+) (Pt.7 posted 20-12-08)

A situation like this should never exist - then why are we out of control?

I'll have to add those to my wish list. I'm still trying to catch up on the current ongoing series though ;D

At my school, the uniform is a white short sleeve shirt and a pair of navy blue pants. It does not really bother me at all. We get dress down days: the day of Christmas break and usually July 14, the day we break for summer holidays. The reason of the uniforms is to avoid embarrassment if a child does not have many outfits to wear to school.

I only read the first part as a reprint and I never finished it. Obviously the bill was not passed, but I am still interested in finding out what happened?
