  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

...When do the Archies first appear as a five-person band , as opposed to the 3-member version in early LWA ?
Please forgive me if this is answered here in this line and tell me so , I am hurried .
Oh , and I remember a story where Archie's band - named " Archie's Archers " - plays a faculty party in the last panel , as a way of working out detention .
  Anyone ?

So I started going through comics from 1971 and there's an issue of Jughead from August of '71 that has Chuck. It's #195 and the story is called "The Dating Game."

http://www.comics.org/issue/228169/

I like how the notes on this comic say: "Chuck's girlfriend in this story is named Georgette; a similar character, Nancy, would be created a few years later."  Lol, wonder just what they mean by "similar"?

It really is funny how each of the early ethnic male characters, Chuck and Frankie Valdez, had to be paired off almost immediately with a "similar" female.  It's just as if the creators said  "It is not good for this man to be alone.  I will make him a helpmeet comparable to him."

You're welcome :)

For the superhero stuff, check out The Secret Origins of Archie as Captain Pureheart. A nice 5-part series of articles on everyone's favorite red-headed superhero :)

Also, after re-reading that blog, it appears that the R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E. stuff started with LWA #49, not issue 48 as I stated above.

I don't have complete details on all the issues that the superhero stories appeared in as those stories were spread out across numerous titles and not confined to a single title like the R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E. stories were.

I'm pretty sure R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E. started in LWA #45.
I have so many Archies, I've lost count!  :D

Thanks Zach Ziggster, Man from RIVERDALE is on the cover of LWA#45.

Was trying to dig up information on Frankie Valdez and Maria Rodriguez.

Earliest mention of them in the Grand Comic Book Database is

Frankie = Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica #267 (March 1978)
Maria = Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica #257 (May 1977)

Does this sound accurate to you guys?

Also am I correct in assuming that the character Carlos and Dilton's robot Q were Filmation inventions and not featured in the comics?

The first post in this thread is really valuable. I wonder if Archie Comics themselves have such a list !

I have seen Carlos in a few stories from (I think) the 70s, but never seen Q.

Yeah, I once read a story where a guy named Carlos is inexplicably helping Archie & Chuck out with some lady who locked her keys in her car. Turns out the lady was stealing her ex-husband's car, and the guys have to go rescue it or they'll end up being arrested. It's the only time I've ever seen the character, and someone like Reggie or even Frankie would've fit in just as well, so it weirded me out.

No. This Q is a Robot sidekick/(debatable) creation of Dilton.

Thanks guys. So my leads are 1970s stories? Anything else to narrow the search down?

Anybody remember what titles? Pep or Archie? Betty and Veronica?

Anybody else have any more info on Frankie or Maria?

Hey all. FYI I will be working on Archie/Sabrina hour soon, so if anybody has any nuggets of info to share on this series and the above inquiries, this would be the perfect time!

Derek, you might want to contact our "resident Archie expert" Forsythe about that. If anyone knows that info, he would. You can email him through his profile here: http://www.archiefans.com/profile/?u=54

He hasn't been active here in some time, but he still answers emails regularly.
