List of Katy Keene appearances?
« on: October 14, 2010, 06:42:48 AM »
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum.  I attended the NYC comic con and by time I made my way to the Archie booth the con was closing.  I forgot to ask if any of the vol 1 Katy Keene stories will be reprinted in traditional trade format.

I am trying to collect all things Katy and some of her vol 1 stories are reprinted in digests.  I have most of the Katy Keene digest from the 80's and most of her 80's series as well.  I could not find an online resource that had archie digest information.  Does anyone know of any site that I can find all of her appearances from the digest?

I can get the other appearances from comics.org and comicbookdb.com.  I searched this forum and discovered that she is reprinted in B&V DD 164 & 165.  I believe that she also appears in some Laugh digests as well.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

After digging around some more I found that she is reprinted mainly in Laugh digest.  34-51.  If anyone else has more information please post.  Thanks

Some of the newer Laugh Digests have the 1980's revamp of Katy Keene in them...I'm thinking from 1992-1995...

I think so too.  I posted the Laugh 102 and in GCD they denote Granbilt which is from the 80's and the 50's series it was Grandbilt.

I think that most of the reprints are in the earlier Laughs but I was throw by the mention of B&V DD having reprints on these boards.

Can anyone here confirm those two B&V DD issues having the 50's series reprints?  I went to an LCS today that I thought would have them but they didn't have the DD.

Another source for retro Katy stories could be the Archie Annual Digests as well.  I may be remembering this incorrectly, but I think the first issue when it switched to Digest format (Archie Annual Digest #27, 1975) had a couple of stories.  I do have that digest, and will double check that, but some of the oldest Archie Digests had the occasional Super Duck and Pipsqueak stories...I would assume that Katy Keene did appear there as well.

No rush but if you could check that I would appreciate it.  Edit: I just checked GCD and they have 27 indexed by no Katy

Thanks for looking!

I totally second your call for an Old School Katy trade and would add an 80's Katy trade as well.

If you haven't already, definitely check Pepoy's Katy trade.

Since you're collecting, I thought I'd also mention that Katy guest-starred in the 2005 Archie Free Comic Book day comic of Betty & Veronica.  Dan Parent was the artist.

Thanks for reminding me about the 2005 fcbd issue.  I just read your review and I am going to get the trade.  I have been holding off on it because I wasn't sure how good it was.  I really wish they put her in her own title again.

After digging around some more I discovered that Laugh Comics had done some Katy Keene stories in the late 50's that I would believe are reprints as well.  Laugh 90, 100 and 102 are indexed on GCD as containing her stories.  I would figure that 90 through 102 all contain KK stories and probably issues prior to and after that range.  They are just not indexed.

If Archie has reprinted so many of these original stories they should be able to put together a collection quite easily.  For some reason I just assumed that they didn't have the original artwork, etc and that is why KK was never collected.

So I dug around again this morning and discovered that Katy Keene is reprinted in very recent Betty and Veronica Double Digest.  I don't know if these are reprints from the 80s or from the original series.  If anyone has any of these can you please check.  Katy from the 80's has curly permed hair and the vintage one sports a Bettie Page do.

Here's the list of B&V

issues 164 165 - I got this from these boards and it was posted that it contained vintage material

Betty and Veronica DD 166 -169; 174 & 175, 179 - The covers on these ones state Katy Keene inside but the small picture posted is her current look.  So I am not sure if these will contain vintage volume 1 stories.

I  tried looking for these in my LCS and they didn't have 164 or 165.  I am going to see if any of the LCS have these back issues this weekend but digest are scarce.  So I may need to order these online if I can get someone to confirm the content.  Thanks so much for looking and helping.

The Katy Keene reprints that are currently running in the Double Digests are reprinted from the 80s.

Thanks Suz!  You saved me some bucks.  Thanks to everyone that helped.  I am thinking that the only digest aside from her own are the early Laughs.
