Does anyone remember that series of Betty stories from the mid 90s in which she got a job working in a wacky newspaper office, and had a new love interest named Dex?  Even Veronica got interested in Dex and Archie got jealous.  Did that plot-line just... fade away?  There were a lot of such strange things going on in the Archieverse around the same time.

We should start compiling a list of consistency issues... Would make a great page for the wiki (part of a "trivia" category perhaps - inconsistencies, continuity issues, etc.)

There'd be so many, it'd be hard to know where to start.

Another thing going on at around the same time was a short-lived obsession with using the word "whimsical" in reference to Veronica (who was called "The Whimsical Rich Girl" or something).  That started getting old fast.
