Refresh History
  • Fernando Ruiz: I haven't seen any of this "frowning" from any other pros. Most of them either already know or have heard what Archie is like. Overall everyone... including Archie employees... have been extremely supportive. As for "quitting the industry," I'm busier than ever!

  • Musical_Necromancer: because many companies big and small see that as someone that could potentially rat them out the first chance they get and make them look bad on social media...something they cannot have...it's why Most in the industry tend to distance themselves from those who do such an thing
    Today at 11:01:42 AM
  • Musical_Necromancer: yeah and calling em as you see em is usually how you get frowned upon by other artists and writers  it's seen as a bold and thoughtless move because saying such things amounts to "Quitting The Industry"
  • Fernando Ruiz: After twenty two years, I'm very familiar with the ups and downs of this business, but long before they cut me loose Archie had a terrible reputation for dealing with their talent. Were Dan DeCarlo, Stan Goldberg and the others just cranky old guys?
  • Fernando Ruiz: I'm only calling 'em as I see 'em.
  • Musical_Necromancer: many artists and writers have had terible situations come up where they are forced to leave but they raise their heads up high and move on...they don't sulk in their own misery and start posting how much the company sucks now
    Today at 10:30:42 AM
  • Musical_Necromancer: when it comes to modernizing  who was suitable in the past is expendable at that very moment because A Company has got to make money and unfortunately sometimes that means cutting loose certain people so you can go forward
    Today at 10:29:30 AM
  • Musical_Necromancer: That's a bit of an extreme comparison....and might i add a bit crazy   these things happen and you can't go throwing tantrums over it   it's life
    Today at 10:27:29 AM
  • Fernando Ruiz: And to say that Archie needed to do something... Absolutely! But you don't give your house a new paint job by burning it to the ground!
  • Fernando Ruiz: The only regret I have where Archie Comics is concerned is staying as long as I did even as the job kept on deteriorating. Clearly my loyalty and service meant very little to them. Honestly the work has eroded to the point where I had no trouble whatsoever replacing them economically.
  • DeCarlo Rules: I have a very equitable relationship to Archie Comic Publications Inc. -- to the extent that they are fulfilling my entertainment needs, I am fulfilling their profit needs. I can't speak to anyone else's entertainment needs, that's none of my business. If you are happy with what you're getting out of it, continue to throw money. My allegiance to the company is in exact proportion to their allegiance to me. Which is to say, at the present time, very little. They don't seem to feel they owe me anything, and I feel exactly the same way. Pretty much your standard prositutional "relationship".

  • Musical_Necromancer: Fernando Ruiz Later Down the line might wish he didn't say such things about ACP when he realizes without them  He's not really getting noticed much and needs something more serious than just doodling whatever Indie crap he's got in his bag
    Today at 09:09:38 AM
  • Musical_Necromancer: Decarlo  Back Issues ANd Reprints won't keep ACP Alive
    Today at 09:07:20 AM
  • BettyReggie: Me too
  • JonInIowaCity: I'm looking forward to the new B&V series though.
  • JonInIowaCity: I'd cut Ruiz some slack. ACP cut him loose after a few years of dwindling support despite he recent high profile success at Archie/Predator.
  • The Downloader: i have to agree, if new is the future, im on board, same as much as i love classic, if acp is gonna die, id rather they tried to live!
  • DeCarlo Rules: I love the classic Archie creators doing similar types of stories and characters, more than I love which company publishes those creators' work. If there aren't going to be any new classic Archie Comics stories, then all I really care about are the old ones. Reprints and back issues.
  • spazaru: You are absolutely right Musical_Necromancer.  No one loves classic Archie more than me.  It wasn't selling and they decided to make a change.  They're trying to save their company.  People may not like the change, but if it was my company, I'm not just going to watch it circle the drain to please the 3000 people who are buying my "classic" books.
  • Musical_Necromancer: comic book sales naturally decline after the first few issues  it's the way of the industry  it's not as huge as it once was so keeping steady sales is damn near impossible unless Your A Top Tier Superhero Book
