  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Can this Forum Get a Mod?
« on: July 12, 2011, 03:14:49 PM »
I think this is just a good idea.   It's sad and pathetic, but pretty much every forum is going to end up being trolled at some point.  >_>  I think it would just be a good idea to have one when that happens and the admin isn't on.  Perhaps it cold be a regular like Captain Hero or someone else.

Don't we have a moderator?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think the only staffmember is Oldiesman, and he's the root administrator.  If there is another mod, I appoologize for insinuating there wasn't one.

Yeah, I think Oldiesmann is the only staff member here.  It's my understanding that staff members display names are highlighted in red, and as far as I know, Oldiesmann is the only one.

Well...I guess since he owns the site, it makes him an automatic mod.  :)

You didn't see the "Administrator" text under my username? :P

I will consider adding a moderator sometime in the near future. What powers do you guys feel they should have?

Let's see...

They should be able to lock threads

Move threads that are put on the section of the message board (A thread about an Archie Movie in the Fan Fiction section, like that)

Being able to delete an inappropriate topic

I also think that if any moderating is to be done that involves reprimanding a member for actions that are against the point of the forum that they should be able to do it behind the scenes.  Give them a warning or something through private messages.  If they act up again, they get a suspension for 30 days.  Third time, they're banned for good.  That way, the problem is isolated between mod and member and nobody else has to get involved.

Honestly, I don't think the regular members do anything that needs moderating.  I just think there's a certain risk unfortunatley.  That risk involves people coming in to attack the forum, like flooding it with ofensive topics or something.  I think that's the only reason why the forum would need a mod.  For extra security.

On the other hand, I don't want to see someone warned, for example, for just posting a rather strong, forceful, or even controversial opinion (like this story sucks, I don't like this artist, Archie is a womanizer, etc.).  I think that would take away some of the appeal for me.

It would be cool to see a mod who would be kind of playful. Like, set things up so that phrases are replaceable. Normally that's used for keeping the swears out - replacing s-bombs with 'stuff' for example. It would be fun to have a mod that would set up the forum so that everytime someone types the word 'jerk' it gets replaced with 'Reggie' ... or the phrase 'LOL' gets replaced with 'Mwa ha ha!'

I feel like the kids in Mary Poppins singing their wish list.

I tend to agree with this.  Certainly people won't agree on everything, and really how boring would it be if it did.  But, if it generates name-calling and threats because of the disagreement, then I would hope someone would step in to diffuse the situation!  :)

This is an extraordinarily smooth-running board.  There's occasional spam and problem members, but it's mostly self-policed and Oldiesmann is always there to bring the hammer down if need be.

The last thing I want is to add authority figures to my life. :)  Invariably some thread I find interesting will get locked because discussion gets "too heated."  Or the moderator will delete posts or issue warnings because "double posting isn't allowed."  I hate that ticky-tack nonsense.

Please let's leave well enough alone.
