  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Author Topic: crazeee new forum ideas- proposal for a "Critics Area" and Fan Art section.  (Read 4247 times)

Yes, a "critics area". With it's own heading, way under everything else. It's just from googling around and my pre-fan experience, there are quite a few archie haters out there, not the kind of people who would join a fan community of course- but sometimes the critics bring up some well established and somewhat valid opinions that fans are too eager to ignore.  As it follows, every once in a while we might find something that doesn't rub us the right way and instead of bringing down the other boards we can put talk about it in the preverbial"ugly stuff" section. If this forum ever gets bigger it seems like it would be needed for some good balance of opinion and to discourage trolls/attackers.  I'm saying this just because it struck me that this place would be a good target for quirky internet marauders-  good targets being the fanship of anything that's easy critisize to based on current social expectations or simply lacks post-modern humor. If they see our community has a place to vent complaints and that we're already admitting amongst ourselves that there are some issues in Archie Comics it might turn them off from wanting to mess with us. But mostly it might just be a good tool for our own discussions and interpretations within the fandom.

What do you think?

And, although there doesn't seem to be much of it here (there is a slightly less than healthy amount of it on DevArt- so people ARE drawing it)- if you make a section it it will come------ a nice little fan art section just waiting to be filled up by people who aren't afraid to make it.  If someone has some fan art they're eager to show the world, the'll stumble upon this site and know they can come here and post them safely due to permission to depict the archie characters on the boards here.

So those are my two red cents.

I usually put my critiques into my reviews. Is it necessary to have a section just for the stuff we don't like about Archie comics? I like to mix in the good with the bad.

Sounds like a good idea, Jeannie.

I'm going with JimY on this. There's no need for a separate section of "ugly stuff". We already criticize stuff in the regular sections, especially in the Reviews section.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

Yeah, I'm in the camp to not install the forum...at least for the moment.

Now, if we end up getting into disagreements where we flame and insult each other, then I might reconsider.  Luckily, we're a really small group, and we more or less all get along here.

exactly.  I'm thinking with the "big forum" mentality in mind. This is more of a suggestion for the future than anything else. But even then, its kind of a touchy concept.

The fan art section is also pretty redundant at this point, but might be good for a larger community. however.... considering the use of galleries..... could there be a fan art gallery made for all of us to put our stuff in? I've been putting mine in my personal folder, but it would be nice to have a "pool" to browse through.

I really don't see a point for a critics / debate area - most people here are all going to have the same viewpoint, and usually you can debate other topics nicely within the topics themselves.

Everyone else has been putting their fan art in their personal albums, so that's mainly why I haven't created a separate album for that.

The easiest way to do this is to just use the tag system in the gallery - tag each fan art image with "fan_art". That way you can click on the tag and view all images tagged with "fan_art".

If there's enough interest though I can create a fan art album.

Thanks for the tip!  I'll use that tag for the time being.

I must admit, I am rather surprised that there is not more Archie fan art on this forum, Stories, sure...plenty of those...but so little artwork. Perhaps if a specific area were provided, more would be forthcoming. I think SOMEONE on this forum made the comment that the "Powers That Be" at the Archie Comics Group do NOT appreciate fan-produced art of the characters.  I could NOT agree LESS! I think they LOVE fan art...it helps keep the franchise alive and lively. Perhaps a an art contest of somekind, with a prize, might be offered to help generate interest.
My two cents...

I'll gladly contribute Archie artwork to support it!:)

Offline Oldiesmann

I'll add a fan art section soon since there's still a lot of interest in it.
