Idea: Social-networking features

I have been thinking of ways to enhance your experience on this site. One of those options would be to add some social-networking type features. However, before I add anything, I want to know what you guys think of these ideas - no point in adding things if nobody's going to use them :)

1. Facebook integration - ability to link your Facebook account with this site, update your Facebook status from your profile here, and various other things.

2. Ultimate Profile - this addon would give you a new "ultimate profile" section of your profile, with "about me" and "interests" fields, as well as profile comments and publicly-visible buddy lists. Other options could include (depending on interest): profile pictures, ability to embed Youtube videos and similar things in your profile and even the ability to customize the overall color scheme of your profile (something I likely wouldn't enable unless there was a huge interest in this).

I don't use Facebook, unfortunately!  :)

And to be completely honest, I probably wouldn't ever customize my profile here either.  But it's an interesting idea!

The ultimate profile thing sounds neat. Maybe add interests and dislikes categories for members to add tags, which could then be cross-referenced with other members' profiles to see who has common interests.

I'd prefer option 2 over option 1.  I would probably customize my profile.

I wouldn't do the Facebook link to this site, because I do use my real name on FB, and only want people I trust to access it.  Not that I'm saying that anyone here is untrustworthy, but these days, you can't be too careful.

I don't really use my Facebook much, but the Ultimate Profile sounds cool! I would definitely fill out the fields.

The tag thing does sound interesting. I'll have to look into that.

Since everyone seems to like the Ultimate Profiles thing, I'll install it in a few days. There's a new version of the forum software out, so once I get the site upgraded, I'll add the new feature :)

I feel the same way.  And I hardly ever use my Facebook account anyway. 

It's a great option to add, though, for those of us who are interested. Thanks as always to Oldiesmann for maintaining the site :)
