Forget everything else, this is the one movie being made right I'm super excited about.  It seems like a fangirl/fanoboy dream come true to have Ridley Scott acutally direct another alien film.  His first film was abosolutely perfect, one of the most visually stunning movies ever, so I'm psyched about seeing him do another one.

Better yet, I suspect this one will come out very well.  Fox is actually letting Scott take his time by letting him have a several month long shooting schedule.  By comparison, most other films, including some of the hit or miss sequels and spin-offs, were forced to have a shooting schedule of only a few weeks.  So they're letting him take his time to slowly compose a vision.  Seeems like a no-BS situation if that's the case.  Reports from the set report some really truly frightening and creepy sets and even monster costumes (which means it woun't be all CGI!), and the line up for the cast that includes people like Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce seems really good.

And to make this Archie related, which Archie character do you think should play what character in an Alien parody?  XD

Alien is one of my ultimate favorite movies of all time... so to have a prequel, even Ridley Scott directing/writing seems to erase the mystery tone from the first film. I even made a paper about this film... I really don't need to know whether the xenomorphs are bio weapons or the origin of the mysterious alien astronaut. We already know from the good sequel Aliens that there's a company who develop xenomorphs (Wayland-Yutani).

But I will reserve my judgement before seeing the movie. I mean, this is RS's baby so I guess he has a right to make a prequel. I hope it would be good. But I won't hold my breath.

Actually, I need to correct something I may be off on with how I titled this thread.  I don't think it's actually a prequel anymore.  At least not in the technical sense like we see with Star Wars.  It's more of a film that takes place before Alien in the same timeline.  Fox isn't even going to bill it as a prequel.  Although, they may be doing that to avoid supposed franchise baggage.  For marketing purposes, it's just "Prometheus" now.

So due to that fact, Scott may not be trying to "explain" everything like how Lucas thought he had to show us how Darth Vader got his costume.  I honeslty think Scott is intelligent enough to know that the mysetery of the direalect ship is part of the reason Alien works.  So while he may show us more, I don't know if he will give use all the puzzle pieces.  What I will suspect will happen is we'll find out how Weyland Yutari found out about the signal on LV-426.  But to do that, he doesn't need to explain everything else.

I could be wrong, but I think Scott knows his entire legacy is on the line here.  I mean Alien is his biggest film period.  Even Gladiator doesn't compare to the kind of benchmark  Alien is.  And this is pretty late in his career to go back to the world of Alien.  He's taking a big risk here.  So yeah I think he's going to try to deilver something really good.  Possibly the creepiest and most visually stunning gothic horror film of all time.  H.R. Giger is also going to be involved I believe in some capacity.

[/buzzed so I hope this reads welll XD]

My thoughts exactly.  I just can't believe the idiots at Fox were smart enough to let this happen and, on top of that, not rush it through its production schedule that the bean counters usually do with Alien franchise films.

There must have been a management change or something.  All I can remember is that they shot down James Cameron who wanted to do Alien 5 in favor of hiring CG videogame director and hack extraordinaire, Palu W.S. Anderson, to make a PG-13 Aliens vs. Predator movie and then two complete nobodies to make another one with the setting of a Friday the 13th movie.

Well with Toy Story 3 and cars 2 out now, what won't stop Pixar from considering having a sequel to The Incredibles?

I still don't like Pixar at all.  lol  If they make an Incredibles 2, they should probably pay residuals to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's estate.  Definitley a lot borrowed from the Fantastic Four I think.

As for me, I don't think anything beats Ridely Scott directed gothic horror visuals with psycho-sexual undertones.  Don't really think there's anything else in the same ballpark except for maybe Dario Agento's art direction, but that's a pretty freaking high standard.  lol

BTW, this isn't going to be a direct prequel/sequel in the Hollywood sense.  It's going to take place before the first film in the timeline though.  The sense I'm getting is it's going to be a pretty original film.  I don't think they're going to rehash route at all.

Thanks for the link!

This is also a good recent one.  Its an invterview with the guy who did the final draft of the script, David Lindelof (who also did Lost).  In the context of talking about Prometheus, he makes some comments about how he hates the Star Wars-ish prequels for ruining the twists of later films.  I think that may address some of your concerns, Honeybee.

The steady stream of news on this film really makes me feel like it's going to be the movie event of the decade.  Maybe even the past two decades.  xD  One of the biggest reasons why?  Ridley Scott is doing the effects practically.  He's using real sets, real props, costumes, and real locales.  After years of nothing but CGI garbage that looks about as real as Beast Wars, I'm really psyched about this.  Seriously would any other director actually build stuff like this now instead of just telling a team of animators to make it after filming?  I think not.  I used to think the old, classic, and just plain better way of making movies like this was over, but now we're going to get something in the same vein again.

[Possible Spoilers]

An official trailer that looks ridiculously awesome came out today:

I haven't been this excited about a movie coming to theaters before I think.  Too bad we have to wait till June, but wow, I want to see this so bad.  XD

This may be silly, but why leave the gap in that spaceship ? or whatever it is, doesn't make sense.

Not quite sure what you're referring to.  If you mean the ship at the end, that's how it's supposed to be shaped.  It's an alien spacecraft of the same design as the one from Alien.  It's supposed to be a bit weird looking and non-conventional.

Ghidra, your excitement's rubbed off on me. I love Alien (although it's not my favourite Ridley Scott film; that would be Blade Runner - which reminds me of the first anime I really got into, which was Bubblegum Crisis... but that's another story).

I love practical effects, so that's a definite plus to Prometheus. One of my favorite movies of all-time is John Carpenter's The Thing, which I think is one of the best practical effects movies ever made. The sequel that came out recently wasn't bad, really, but it's a film that I think should have honored the original by sticking with practical effects.

That is all (for now).
