  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: gonna be hard for anyting to catch up, Ridley Scott is pretty much the top of dark visual design imo, and he drew a lot from Moebius for that film, most fillm makers are not really connected to aestheticas of good fantasy film making in the same way

Bands and artists that define the various music genres
« on: July 19, 2008, 05:25:20 AM »
As everyone knows, music is not limited to a specific style; after all, we've got rock, rap, hip-hop, jazz, classical, RnB, fusion... The list goes on.

Anyway, this thread is to discuss what the bands/groups/artists that YOU feel define the various genres out there. I'll start:

Rock: The Beatles, The Eagles, Led Zep
Hard rock: Hendrix (duh), Deep Purple, Black Sabbath (the first real heavy metal band), Thin Lizzy
Prog rock: Rush, Dream Theater
"Happy" rock: Foo Fighters
Indie: Franz Ferdinand
Punk: NoFX, Billy Talent
Pop punk: Blink 182, Sum 41, Green Day (their old stuff)
Grunge: Nirvana
Parody rock: Beatallica (a surprisingly good blend of the Beatles and Metallica)
Metal: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Megadeth (their new stuff)
Speed metal: Metallica, Megadeth (their old stuff)
Power metal: Firewind (Got to love their cover of "Maniac" from the movie 'Flashdance')
Death Metal: Children of Bodom (Just listen to "Living Dead Beat")

Pop: The Archies (duh...), ABBA

Rap: Eminem
Hip-hop: Akon ("Lonely" makes better use of its sample than Nitty's "Nasty Girl")
RnB (male): Prince
RnB (female): Rihanna

The thread is now open for discussion...

Ditto to that as well.

On that note, don't even ask about mathcore or gore-grind. Heck, post-hardcore and metal have much more subgenres than you can shake a stick at.
