Hi IWJ,

As a young-in back in the day I used to watch gilligan's Island religiously. So far, Christopher Reeve and George Reeves are the only "real" Supermans for me. (george Reeves portrayed the Man of Steel in the Adventures of Superman tv show.)

I was never much of a Star Trek fan until the Next Generation TV series and the 3 really good Star Trek movies came out ("Wrath of Khan", "Search for Spock", and "The Voyage Home"). Always felt that William Shatner overacted so much that I couldn't take the TV series seriously.

Have always enjoyed Buddy Holly and The Crickets and the Beatles. Can't think of a song any of them did that I didn't like...

Man! Do those questions make me feel OLD!   It's like asking me if I have ever heard of "breathing" or "popcorn". Yes IWJ. those "old" shows were new in my day! I remember when Star Trek premiered. And I was a fan of the original, bad Shatner preformances and all. I watched Gilligan's Island religiously! My Grandmother knowing I liked the show so much,  once made me an island themed birthday cake because of it. I'm still much more of a George Reeves SUPERMAN fan than I am Christopher Reeve...George will always personify SUPERMAN to me. Don't get me started on old TV shows...I'm like an old lady telling people about her grandchildren...I'll never shut up.
Well,l have to go get my prostate checked...see ya later.

I first watched Gilligan and Star Trek when they were broadcast on the networks, before they went into syndication.

And I remember 45 RPMs of Buddy Holly and The Crickets and The Beatles!!

And to me George Reeves will always be "the real Superman."

No, did not know that fact....I'd like to read that one.

Okay! Let's find out just who is a REAL old TV NERD!
Anyone KNOW the FULL names of all the characters on GIlligan's Island? They ALL have FULL names, except ONE...NO JOKE! The names were revealed on only ONE episode. BUT the character who DID NOT have a full name was officially given one by show creator Sherwood Shwartz YEARS after the show was canceled. So, all the castaways have full names...what are they?

oh... I hate this question! Here we go:

Skipper Jonas Grumby
Professor Roy Hinkley, Jr.
Ginger Grant
Mary Ann Summers
Thurston Howell the 3rd
Eunice Wentworth 'Lovey' Howell
and
Gilligan, who is the only one I think didn't have a last name. gonna google it now to be sure... :)

Yep, Gilligan was the only one without a last name. Producer Schwartz said that if he ever gave gilligan a last name t would be "Willy". (Gilligan Willy?)  :idiot2:

Ha Ha! Gregg, I figured you'd know the answers...Actually Shwartz and Bob Denver both agreed upon Gilligan's full name and it was "Willy Gilligan". THAT I got from Denver's autobiography.

And hands up if you remember Bob Denver as Maynard G. Krebs from Dobie Gillis!

darkmark - ::raises hand:: I think part of the reason I loved that show was because it reminded me of Archie comics. My memory of it is really fuzzy though, I ought to try and track down some episodes!

There's was either an article or a rumor i heard that Dobie Gillis WAS supposed to be Archie but the rights fell through or somesuch. Years later, Dobie Gillis would inspire Hanna Barbera to create Scooby Doo. So, Scooby Doo was inspired in a roundabout way by Archie.

Probably old news, but Archie owes a lot to the Andy Hardy film series from the 30s and 40s! And I have always felt that Scooby Doo owed a lot to the Archie series. Nothing new, under the sun.

i heard that Dobie Gillis WAS supposed to be Archie but the rights fell through or somesuch.

I heard that Dobie was intentially inspired by Archie, but I never heard that he was supposed to be. I wonder which came first Dobie or the 60's Archie pilot?

If you've ever seen it, the first couple of seasons of Dobie, it really is Archie with just a couple of small twists. I've had to talk myself out of collecting the DC Dobie comic multiple times.

:)
