  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

July 4th - what are you doing?
« on: July 03, 2008, 03:06:12 PM »
This year, the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth (Calgary Stampede) happens to start on the same day as US Independence day - neato!

(I'm kind of an animal rights guy - so some of the stampede isn't my cup of tea, but some is pretty cool)
No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.

I know this is going to sound very ugly, but I never equated cowboys/wild west with Canada. Heck, a few years ago, I read Louis Riel and was astonished at how little Canadian history I knew.

Anway, I might take a day trip with some friends to see a AAA baseball game (Scranton). Other than that, I'll do my weekly running, enjoy some time to myself with some movies, reading and comics!

Well, back in the days of yore - there really wasn't much of a border to speak of between the US and Canada.

Calgary is only a few hundred miles north of Montana and we are actually (as far as I know) the city with the most US citizens in Canada (last I heard it was around 76,000 of you guys here!).  There's a pretty long historical connection between all of Canada and the US (in fact, we even captured the Whitehouse - but that was way back in 1812 and I sure wouldn't want to see us go up against today's US military! haha! - besides, we just turned around and left anyhow.)

If, for some odd reason, you ever wanted to know more about Canada - I'd recommend the documentary series "Canada: A People's History" - which was done a few years ago for television over several years.  It's very well done.

Where I live in Canada, because of our connection to the US (lot's of folks in Oil and Gas - so lot's of folks from Texas) we often see July 4th Celebrations!  So this year we get:  July 1st: Canada Day, July 4th: Independence Day AND the start of the Stampede.

My poor dog will be under my bed with all the fireworks!

I'm likely going to be viewing the neighbor's pyrotechnics from the back porch for the 4th... weather permitting. Dull, I know, but, I'm a thrill-seeker like that. :)

You know what's really backwards?  As a Canadian, I had to WORK on Canada Day.

The 4th of July?  My day off!

And, no, I don't know what I am doing! :)

I will be listening to the sound of hammers banging on my roof. I lost part of my roof in a recent windstorm, and my roofer actually wanted his crew to re-shingle it on the 4th of July! I told him it could wait until Monday, but he wanted to do it on the 4th! Okay! So be it! I think the wife and I will go look at new refridgerators while they make all their noise.  No family or friends, so we'll just be by ourselves...except for the roofers.

Paid day off for me! :)  Getting my autistic son for most of the day, barbeque at night, and maybe going to the local fireworks show... nothing major.

I'll be working furiously on my book.  My deadline is July 15.  I may go see "Hancock" sometime this weekend.  And my wife and daugther and I will probably have lunch sometime with my son and daughter-in-law.

I work for the regime (mom's term, but I agree with it) at Kmart, so no day off for me. I work from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM in sporting goods (my least-favorite department).

Hurrying like mad to FINISH cleaning my apartment today BEFORE my friend comes over for my 4th of July feast.

This means manhandling my futon mattress, RUNNING out to get spot remover AND box of macaroni elbows that I FORGOT to buy yesterday, cleaning my bathtub, and rearranging EVERYTHING before my friend arrives!

Plus, I gotta cook barbeque ribs, macaroni salad, and corn on cob, too. We're having banana splits for dessert, BTW.=9

Have maybe 3 hours to do it. :embarassed:

My macaroni salad sucks. :buck2:

All because I failed to chill it overnight and also because I was in a big rush to finish it before my friend came over.

Nor was my apartment finished in time (had to put a towel over the naked futon mattress so we could sit on it), but at least we had a good time. ::)

I was up at 6AM in preperation for the roofers arrival at 7AM.They never showed up! I called their boss, and left a message, but never heard from anyone! Those jerks better call tomorrow with a darned good excuse. So, the wife and I went to BEST BUY and bought a BRAND NEW three-door stainless steel refridgerator! It's nicer than my car!  A far cry from the $400.00 dollar-bare-bones better-than-nothing-almond-colored-mostly-plastic fridge we bought when we first moved into our house. Now I have to remove about 80 different decorative magnets that have slowly become one with the old fridge over the last 13 years. The wife has made it known in no uncertain terms that the magnet collection is going into the trash, and NOT onto the new fridge!

Magnets are part of fridge's personality! You can't chuck 'em after 13 years!!!

We've gone from a crappy old almond colored White-Westinghouse slightly larger than an apartment size fridge, to a very nice LG stainless steal, three door, water and ice in the door, beauty. the wife says NO FRIGGIN MAGNETS on her new fridge.
This is what we got:
