Nickelodeon's Winx Club (2011)

Okay, so, to add yet another English version of this series to the pile (there's RAI English (aired in places but mostly used by other nations to dub the series into local languages rather than having to deal with Italian), Cinelume (Canadian, although a Canadian told me that they got the 4Kids dub, so I'm not sure where this aired), and 4Kids (U.S.)), Nickelodeon will be dubbing seasons 3 and 4 into English and then doing an all-new season 5.

In order to play catch-up (read: we're lazy), they've created 4 specials that breeze through seasons 1 and 2. You'd think these would be glorified clips episodes, but they actually got Rainbow (the Italian company that makes the series) to reanimate the scenes from scratch. It's almost a shot-for-shot remake (but with oddities such as the girls wearing their season 2 outfits in season 1). It reminds me of the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie (in other words, pointless). Why not just use the existing animation?

I dunno.  I gave up on this show after what happened to Flora and Mirta in Season 2.  I usually don't quit a show like that, but yeah.  lol

The RAI dub was infinitely better than the 4Kids version.  4Kids really made it worse.  lol Too bad they wasted Lisa Ortiz on it.

I'm guessing they're reanimating some of it because they didn't render it in HD.  That would be my first guess.

FORGET MLP from 20 years ago! It's on Hub now and it was created by the woman who would one day carry babies from the creator of The Powerpuff Girls. :)

In all fairness, before she did that, she wrote, animated, produced and directed episodes of both The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Prior to that she was an animator on The Iron Giant, Cat's Don't Dance and Quest for Camelot.

Pretty good list of accomplishments.

My little cousin tried to get me interested in it..but I just don't like Flash animation. And to be fair, I let her watch an old MLP movie (About the Smoo making people angry and grumpy) and she told me it looked old and the characters moved really slow. :)

I heard one other dub (for a few episodes) besides 4Kids', but I don't know if it was Cinelume (Canadian) or RAI.

Anyway, I like the 4Kids dub for the voice actors. I even like the songs that they created for it. I just don't like what they did with the story.

It makes me wish that the 4Kids actors had also done the more accurate dubs.

I'm guessing they're reanimating some of it because they didn't render it in HD.  That would be my first guess.

But, as far as I can tell, seasons 3 and 4 aren't in HD either, yet they're doing full dubs of those.

And, if those, then why not full dubs of seasons 1 and 2? It boggles the mind.

What happened?

Big subtext between Flora and Mirta in Season 1.  There's even suggestions Mirta broke up with someone who seems like her girlfriend, and they sit next to each other at the prom.  Flora says something akin to she doesn't need a boyfriend, which was significant because all the other several female characters in the show were paired with a guy.  First promo I see for Season 2 has Flora getting a boyfriend.  So yeah, I was done at that point.  Right decision too, I think, becuase Mirta was also pretty much written out of the show.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but I probably have a weird background with this show, because I started watching it because it was suggested to me by friends who pointed out the subtext for me.  It's not like I just started watching it and then just started shipping the characters like I did for other shows like Josie and the Pussycats, Totally Spies, or whatever.

Although, I guess its kind of pointless to still be complaining about that since they're several seasons past that now.  Xd  I can see why other people still like it.  Although it still seems corny that out of six female characters, everyone of them has a steady boyfriend.  That even sends a wrong signal to single girls I think.  lol  Not that I would really rail against that or anything, that kind of political correctness annoys me, but it just kind of irked me at the time.  lol

The ones I saw were ripped from UK DVDs, so I think it was the RAI dub.  I was just kind of shocked about how less corny it was than the 4Kids version.  I don't even know why the 4Kids dub was needed, but that company was ran into the ground, so they've been making a lot of stupid decisions (not to mention ripping off rights licensors).

I agree the 4kids voice actors are good, but they were provided with scripts rewritten to be corny.  So crap in, crap out I guess.  Same thing with other 4kids dubs.  I think some of the One Piece voice actors refused to be credited because they thought it would hurt their careers.

Maybe they were easy to upconvert due to the aspect ratio.  Note, I'm not really an expert on how this show was produced.  lol
