  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

It's Tintin
It seems that the genius that was Herge is coming to the big screen in Speilberg's/ Peter Jackson's adaptation of the popular comics, Tintin.

The film will be Tintin:Secret of the Unicorn with Jamie Bell, Billy Elliott, as Tintin. Can't wait till we get to see Captain Haddock, blistering barnacles. ;)

I absolutely love TinTin.  Some of the BEST comics ever.

If you like TinTin - check out the following:

Reprint editions - there are seven little hardcover books reprinted them all

CineBooks - a publisher that is reprinting some very cool titles - including some by Herge's assitant that are very TinTin like.

There was also a recent book on the art of Herge.

VERY good stuff.
No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.

Oh No! I hope Spielberg doesn't ruin it! But with Jackson involved, it may be okay. And it's MOTION CAPTURE! Interesting! I hope they keep it set in the 30s/40s
Fingers crossed...

I think Spielberg did some amazing work when he first started off as a director, but over the years, he just hasn't been as powerful as he once was.  I think part of me wonders if he's lost his passion for the movies...

I think he's gotten so big that no one can override him. He needs an editor. The movies that come to mind are AI and Minority Report where it seemed like they could have ended the movie in many areas. But then there are other recent films like Munich and Catch Me If You Can which are very well done and you can see his hand in it.

The part about Munich that really resonated for me was the ending, when he panned away and you could see the Twin Towers in the background.

The bloom is off the rose with Spielberg. He's too big, he believes his own press. Just like George Lucas. Neither of them is lean and hungry anymore. Both guys make popular films, but neither really make important films. Speilberg tried with Shindler's List, but it was so self conscious, I really didn't care for it. I think maybe he was too close to the subject matter, he was trying too hard. Jurassic Park...a fun film with amazing effects, but a great film? NO!
Sorry, but I just don't take either man very seriously these days. I don't be-grudge them their success, and I do still see some of their films and enjoy them for what they are....entertainment.

And the 2012 Oscar for best animated film goes to *opens envelope*

The secret of the unicorn

Honestly, Tintin was My Batman and I am happy to see he is getting the proper treatment he deserves.

I think the choice of story is fantastic as well.  Secret of the Unicorn was actually one of the very first TinTin comics I ever read (it's actually TWO comic albums).  it's amazing to think that he has been around since 1929!  The space series is also cool, but understandably not as relevant to today's audiences and not as good of a choice for a film treatment.

One of the things I half-collect are the TinTin die cast cars.  (plus, I have a Rocket Ship!).  They are pretty cool and I love some of the vehicles from the comics.  I especially like the shark-submarine from the Unicorn series and look forward to seeing it in "live" action.

Finally saw the film today and I must say, Spielberg has done a great job, even Herge would approve.

The adventures which I found first off referenced in the film, not counting the opening credits, are :

The Secret of The Unicorn ( of course )
The Blue Lotus
The Cigars of the Pharaoh
King Ottokar's Sceptre
Explorer's on the Moon
The Crab with The Golden Claws ( This formed the meat of the film )
Castafiore's Emerald
The Calculus Affair
Red Rackham's Treasure

I was almost let down by the end that this is it, but no, the story will continue !
