  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Biollante: gonna be hard for anyting to catch up, Ridley Scott is pretty much the top of dark visual design imo, and he drew a lot from Moebius for that film, most fillm makers are not really connected to aestheticas of good fantasy film making in the same way

All of us remember watching that goofy Jim Henson show as little kids, heh. Especially from 1970s, of course!

Lol, Bert looks just like a banana with a tuft of black hair at top and also that one big eyebrow over his frowning clown face!XD And his roommate, Ernie looks just like a happy hamburger, BTW!

Who were your favorite Sesame Street characters? And your favorite moments on that show, too?

And anyone born in 1970s and before remember Electric Company, a kiddie version of Saturday Night Live, BTW? It was pretty funky, IMHO!;)

I loved Sesame Street as a kid.  I was lucky enough to still watch it before Elmo took over!

As far as my favourite characters go, I've always been a Cookie Monster fan.  Big Bird and Snuffleupagus were favourites as well as the Twiddlebugs and the Yip-Yip aliens!

Kermit the Frog's "News Flash" segments were hysterical.

I loved the 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 pinball machine!

I loved the Ladybugs Picnic sketch.

And, I also liked Jughead's "Letter J" skit!

The Ladybugs' Picnic was a song that stuck with me *long* after I'd stopped watching Sesame Street, and it's even on The Incredibles dvd (I think). The Batty-Bat was another catchy-cute song with an interesting video and there are quite a few versions of the pinball 1-12 song!

When I was really little, I actually learned to swim with the help of an instructor who implemented the left arm, "Bert", and right arm, "Ernie", so, to swim, we'd just paddle to a mantra of, "Bert and Ernie, Bert and Ernie". While I don't know how effective it was, I do know that it was fun for us as kids to hear some familiar, favorite characters' names when learning a scary (for some) skill.

As for my favorites, I've always had a fondness for both Bert and Ernie (a bit more for Ernie though), as well as the Yip-Yips, which I'd forgotten about, Gonzo, Fozzie, Kermit, Statler & Waldorf, Slimey (Oscar's inchworm), the 2 monsters who would push words together, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker, and Sam the Eagle.

Super Grover was also good, but, Waiter Grover was AWESOME!

Mr. Snuffalupagus always weirded me out 'cause of how slowly he spoke and his insanely long, floaty eyelashes.

Another one I remember...the little girl going to the supermarket saying "a loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter" over and over.

I drove schoolkids bonkers saying that line. :)

I loved Big Bird, Oscar, Ernie (Bert always ticked me off), Kermit, Guy Smiley, Oscar and the Count. Cookie Monster was ok (I really liked him as the host of Monsterpiece Theatre). And I had a crush on Maria for the longest time... :smitten:

If anyone wants a copy of the Sesame Street music CDs I found at the library, drop me a PM...

And i loved the Electric Company... Easy reader (a very young Morgan freeman), Jennifer of the Jungle, Rita Morena, Fargo North -- decoder--, The Short Circus, Love of Chair... what a crazy show!!!

How could you dislike Bert, Gregg? He's so gangly and lovable when he's doing "The Pigeon" dance!!!

Bert was just a pain... Oscar's grumpyness was so over the top it was funny, but Bert's was just annoying....

He did do good on "Doin' The Pigeon" though... :)

i still watch sesame street, haha. just because i baby sits my nephews and nieces, and the safest programs on tv is sesame street.

my favorite is count von count. "one, two, three! three bats, ah ah ah ah!"

i watched electric company during the reruns. i think they had spider-man or something, i don't remember much.

My favorite characters:

humans: Bob, Maria, Luis, Susan, Gordon, Olivia

muppets: Count Von Count, Cookie Monster, Oscar, Bert, Ernie

Specific memories:

Mr. Hooper dying; the other characters had to explain to Big Bird that Mr. Hooper wasn't coming back

Big Bird trying to prove Snuffy's existence to the others - including entering Snuffy in a marathon (it didn't work; Snuffy stopped at a Stop sign and waited for it to change); ultimately, Big Bird just had them meet Snuffy at the nest

Big Bird getting lost in Snuffy's cave while looking for treasure

Luis breaking his arm in the Fix-It Shop after something heavy fell on it, because Big Bird kept yelling at him to hurry up and finish his work, so they could go someplace

a cartoon segment about landmarks where 2 kids get lost in the city - until they follow landmarks back home (it freaked me out of a kid, and I always left the room when it came on)

Ernie's song about sheep that he sings when he has insomnia: some sheep come and carry Bert's bed outside, and then Ermie can sleep

Ernie's bath song: The Rubber Duck; especially funny moments include Bert walking up to the bathroom door, pressing his ear to it, listening, and slowly raising his eyebrows - and the bathroom itself swaying from side to side (I guess the song just rocks that hard)

Grover's alphabet disco dance

Grover climbing a large staircase and eventually coming to a blank wall at the top (possibly split into 2 segments)

a primetime special hosted by Barbara Walters called "25/25", where a developer wants to tear down the buildings on Sesame Street

some characters going across the street and seeing the building at 124 Sesame Street

a segment where Harry Monster watched as a boy named John-John counted enthusiastically

I used to have an 8-track tape called "The Stars Come Out On Sesame Street", where various singers sang songs with/to Sesame Street characters (possibly taken from segments recorded for the show). I remember 2 Johnny Cash songs ("Nasty Dan" with Oscar and "Five Feet High and Rising" with one of the construction worker muppets) as well as others called "Be My Echo" (with Grover) and "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" (the latter of which I saw performed on the show; the singer was sitting with kids on a small island surrounded by water). I wish I still had this.

I also used to have some kind of cassette tape. The only thing that I remember is a segment involving Cookie Monster (I think) going across a bridge, where a dragon was waiting.

Oh, I REMEMBER that funny lemon guy!!!XD I remember how he stopped dancing to have his rubber legs do a pretzel dance of their own! And how his ten-gallon hat suddenly got shot and it deflated over his face!

And I also remember Bert being obsessed with pigeons!

(BTW, about Mr. Snuffalupagus being a mammoth...wait, aren't mammoths supposed to have EARS? Besides, Snuffy has kangaroo-like hind legs and a long dinosaur tail, too.)

One more thing...I used to think Guy Smiley was such a HANDSOME guy! (giggle)

Man!  Good times, good times.  I loved the whole "invisible" snuffilupigus (sp) series.  I think they decided to make him "real" and let the adults see him in order to let the kids watching know that adults can be trusted and they will believe you.

The other day (well...a while back), I was watching an episode with my daughter that featured REM - that was pretty cool.
No matter where I go, there I am.  Creepy.
