  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

Your guilty pleasures

Which things do you read / watch / play / listen to that would make your relatives look at you funny or, at worst, lecture you about?

Me:

violent and/or sexual anime and other animation: Bubblegum Crisis, Megazone 23, Angel Cop, hentai, Heavy Metal, etc.

Rap music (note: this might be an oxymoron): I listen to it occasionally for a good laugh (NWA), but there are a few songs that I genuinely like ("Guns High" by Ace Hood and "It's a Fight" by Three 6 Mafia).

fighting games: Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, etc.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

Why should they be called guilty pleasures ?

Anyways, here goes :

Read : Comics from childhood which children nowadays won't touch with a 50 ft / m long pole.

Listen : Songs in Chinese / Japanese / Korean / any language which neither I nor anybody around me understands.

Watch : Tom and Jerry

Play : RoadRash ( comp) and I won't call it playing but I cycle a lot which makes people go "When the hell are you gonna buy a vehicle ?"

I don't really have that many guilty pleasures.  I like everything from really girly cutesy stuff to really dark twisted horror movies, and I'm not really embarrassed about it.  Maybe there's a few things I only tell friends about, but I wouldn't mention those here.  XD

Nothing cringe worthy about Bubblegum Crisis or Megazone 23.  Those are both cyber punk classics.  Can't really stand hentai OVAs.  There's only one I've seen that was good.  It was made by AIC (aka the studio that did Tenchi Muyo, etc.).  Everything else just seems to be either unconsentual of misogynistic.

There's nothing wrong with rap.  Although, I call it Hip Hop.  If you don't think it's music, maybe you need more exposure to the good stuff like A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, MF Doom, or the Roots.  NWA is a good starting point.  Both of their albums are pretty good.  Eazy E is a favorite of mine, just because he's hilarious.  Ice Cube and MC Ren are pretty good on the mic.

Fine.  I'll admit it.

I watch Young and the Restless, and have off and on since 2000.

That's all.

I watched Michelle Ray Smith's scenes on "Guiding Light", only because I one day thought "Hmm, I'll check out a soap opera and see if there's a cute female character that I can follow."

I also followed Bianca's various relationships on "All My Children", which was easy, because I recorded the show for mom.

Nothing cringe worthy about Bubblegum Crisis or Megazone 23.

My mom watched the first episode of BGC and thought it didn't make sense.

To put this in perspective, she got really upset at me a few weeks ago when she discovered I play "Mafia Wars" on Facebook and posted my status updates on my Wall. She was under the impressions that 1) it's a violent game, and 2) I was manually typing out those posts to brag about playing a criminal. She was like "No one's ever going to Like your posts if you post stupid stuff." I tried to convince her that that wasn't the point, but she wouldn't listen. She was like "Aren't there any nice games that you can play, not games where you play a terrorist?"

Just watched one of my guilty pleasures. Son of the Mask. Honestly, I know it got panned pretty bad...but if you just ignore Jamie Kennedy, this is an okay movie. Plus it has Natalie Teager from Monk. :)

Personally, I have so little cognizance of what other people think of me, that I don't feel any guilt for liking things. I mean, there's bad stuff I watch ("Mario 3" had an AWFUL cartoon), but it's more to laugh at it's badness. I watched Sailor Moon & Jem when those were VERY unpopular things for dudes to watch. No Guilt, all Pleasure :).

I have a rapidly-growing love of Broadway Musicals, though. Don't care how gay it makes me sound, either- "Wicked" is freaking awesome, and everyone who doesn't think so deserves to have poop thrown at them.

I love Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel. There wouldn't really be anything wrong with that, except I'm 23 years old and feel really wrong watching it.  :P lol
