  • Oldiesmann: I doubt it. Super Duck is pretty much forgotten by now. I don't think they'd bring him back now unless there was clear evidence that they could make a profit from it. Sure, those of us who are die-hard Archie fans would be interested in it, but who else would be?

Dear Rik -
I will not be attending the San Diego Comicon this year, but hope that if they have a chance to bring Katy Keene to a television show, that they give credit to her creator Bill Woggon.
Good luck with your work at Archie and for the future plans for Archie and the gang.
Sincerely, - John S. Lucas, Katy Keene artist.

Mr. Lucas, did you ever have the chance of meeting Mr. Woggon?

Yeah, about 50 times or so - long story - but I started corresponding and calling him in the 70s and then met him first at the first "Katy-Kon" we all organized in the early 80s in Santa Barbara CA - his home - then after a few of those, we were asked to join in with the San Diego Con and such.  I've been to his home many times and was invited to his 50th Wedding Anniversary Party in 1985 in SB.
I first heard of Katy Keene and Bill Woggon when I was a kid - my older sister - 6 years older - began to buy Katy comics along with Millie the Model and Patsy Walker - this was my first sight of the Great Katy.  Then I saw where kids sent in designs for Bill W. to use in the books, but I never sent in any because I thought I wasn't good enough even though I was a pretty good artist in grade school.  I worked with him and Barb Rausch and Trina Robbins and Craig Leavitt on the 18 issues of the Katy Keene Fan Magazine - 1979-1984.  Then when Archie brought Katy back in reissued comics and new art by DeCarlo in 1983, they then called me from NY and asked me to do the art on the new Katy Fan Club - which I did.  Then later I got a call from Silberkleit, Goldwater and Gorelick asking me to take over the art on the comic after seeing all the work I did on the fan mag and the good response from all the fans.  Bill W. was so happy to see me asked to do the work because by then he knew me well enough to know how much I cared for the character and that I would try to keep it done with respect for the past but an understanding of the present.  He was happily retired by then and only wanted to golf and hear about how Katy was ongoing with the old and new fans.  This is more of an answer than you wanted, I'm sure, but I enjoy the work so much and love to talk about it.  I am still in touch with his kids Bill Jr. and Suzie - who he based Katy's "Sis" on.  Any other stuff you wanna know?  Just ask, man. - Thanks - John Sterling Lucas. Katy Artist.
