ARCHIE ALL-STARS VOLUME 3: THE CARTOON LIFE OF CHUCK CLAYTON
RIVERDALE’S RESIDENT CARTOONIST TAKES CENTER STAGE IN THIS SPECIAL STORY!
Originally appearing in the pages of ARCHIE & FRIENDS #126 through #129, “The Cartoon Life of Chuck Clayton” focuses on Chuck’s efforts to share his artistic talents with neighborhood kids, and the special relationships he develops as he teaches cartooning.  It all starts when Chuck is asked to teach an after-school program in cartooning to elementary school kids… and it isn’t long before he learns the kids can be more hyperactive than his doodles!  But Chuck is determined to connect with the kids and help them create the next comic book classics.  Along the way, he gets some help teaching from an unlikely source, and reaches out to a troubled child known for spreading graffiti.  Can Chuck’s world of collecting, drawing, and teaching kids how to make their own comics take on new meaning?  The answer’s just a splash panel away!  This poignant tale comes courtesy of someone who knows their way around both creating and teaching comics, namely acclaimed writer, children’s art advocate, and organizer of the world’s only “Kids’ Comic” convention, Alex Simmons.

I didn't like the sound of the dress code story when it was announced and now. . . seriously, Veronica's wearing THAT skirt and arguing in favour of a conservative dress code? Methinks they used the wrong term, there.  And, honestly, not everyone can afford to dress like they stepped out of a fashion magazine.  Not everyone has a body type that's flattered by those styles -- or can find them in their size at all.  *is rather frustrated by the fashion industry, including supposed 'petite' stores*

you know, i can't believe that i'm sided with veronica. but she's right. just because girls multitasks and do more activities, doesn't mean they have to dress like slobs. but i'm also sided with betty a little here; people should dress whatever they want.

i'm fine with dressing up casual in certain situation, but sloppy jeans and sweatshirt everyday like they just got up from bed to school is sending a bad message; it's okay to look like hell, as long you're good in the inside  ???  i'm not a high maintenance woman nor dressy like veronica, but sometimes girls really need some effort to look their best, no matter how busy they are and what size they are. you wanna look good, people will take you seriously and some respect. i'm not saying they need to dress up like a snob everyday. i'm saying that they need to put some efforts; wear clean jeans, mix and match the clothes, wear sport wear while doing sports, but still looking good. casual can look nice. trust me on this, they will feel good about themselves too because they're making some efforts and it pays in the end.

granted, i haven't read the whole story, so i dunno how it ends -- maybe they'll come up with a middle solution? i hope so.

I agree though, veronica in the conservative side? doubtful.

i think they can be casual and look good at the same time.

I prefer 'Casual but neat' -- ie, nothing high fashion, but still practical, clean, tidy clothing.  Leaning more toward Betty's side, really -- I looked up Harper's Bazaar and found this site: http://www.harpersbazaar.com/

Stylish, but not the sort of thing you can really wear to class -- and not in a student's price range.

Offline honeybee

yep, i also prefer casual. i am not really a high fashion taker. but i think what veronica is trying to point out is, girls shouldn't be slobs. i look at the pics beside her, and the girls' clothes seems sloppy.

i actually wanna know the end of this story, i hope they reach a common ground.

i like casual fashion like this (for teenagers): Casual Chic or like Casual Smart

Just introduce uniforms, I loved them at school...
Still wear a uniform and I'm well out of school... Bought the same pair of jeans and tank tops and basically all I wear.
Plus, I dunno 'sloppy' could be confused for 'poor'

As much as I dislike the idea of a dress code at my workplace (at my workplace it's black and white...NO COLOUR), I would have appreciated one at my high school, just because as someone who came from a family that struggled financially, it would have made me feel somewhat better knowing I didn't have to "compete" with the rich kids.  We'd all look the same.

Same, for some reason I HATE work uniforms but school ones are okay. I think its the whole forced corporation loosing your identity thing. School at least you have freedoms in what you say or do, but at work they freakin check your facebook to make sure your not saying anything bad about them.

i live in SEAsia, where all schools wearing uniforms. i love it, because we don't see any differences between rich/poor. everyone is equal here. i'm 30, and everytime i drive past a high school where the kids are hanging out wearing their uniforms, i just missed it (wearing high school uniform). i have friends that are coming from different backgrounds, but we never actually paying attention where they come from. public school and private school are the same here; everyone is wearing uniforms.

but like i said before (way back in another thread), most americans hate the idea of uniforms because they're afraid of losing their identity. i had an american friend who went to my high school years ago, and she hated wearing the uniforms. she said that she felt like a sheep. i disagree with her -- but i guess it's just a culture thing.

only in the eyes of judgmental people, i guess. because i think students can look clean and sharp no matter what.

I went to parochial schools for 8 years (the first several being spent in public school before we moved -- [I live in suburbs outside of New York City]) and I didn't mind wearing uniforms because it cut out the "I don't know what to wear" bit.  The only thing that got me annoyed is when the school staff got picky about what color socks you were supposed to wear, and they gave you this royal blue sweater as part of the uniform (optional) instead of allowing you to wear your favorite pullover sweaters.  That sweater s&cked because royal blue does not go with my skin tone really well.

Every once in a while they had out of uniform days.  I was not heavily into being a fashion slave at age 14 and wore something some people laughed at (I hate these people to this day, frankly), but that only happened to me once on an off uniform day.  Oddly, I resent it heartily when corporations tell one how to dress.

I don't know about that, I live in a below poverty commune, and the kids are all over the place dress wise. Plus if the parents don't care the kids won't care.  I'm just saying if you don't have the money and your an active kid its going to be hard to look sharp.  Plus, kids can be pretty cruel to others who dress differently then the norm anyways.
Why uniforms are best.

As long as you don't make me wear a dress, I'm fine. ::)
