I think it was rude on Jughead's part to do that, but I loved the story :)

I guess it was inevitable that the Peanut story would end on a pun. It started on puns and ended on one. It was a good plan on Jug's part to get the peanuts but he doesn't have a sense of how much that many pounds of peanuts is.

Speaking of Jug, I was surprised to see so many readers here not like Jug. I'm reading this digest and came upon the story where Jug sees Ms.Grundy sad in school and every one tells him to mind his own business and he decides that that's not the right thing to do so he sticks his nose in her business and it turns out he could make her happy on her birthday. I would say that while there are many slapstick Jughead stories, this one is more indicative of the kind of person that Jug is. How could you not like Jug?!

As a Jughead-hater myself, I can say that it's because the kind of story that you just mentioned is outside the norm. More often, Jughead is involved in slapstick stories and comes off as a woman-hater, a sloth, a glutton, a food-stealer, and a freeloader. If I have to read a ton of those types of stories just to get to one "meaningful characterization" story, then he isn't worth my time or admiration.

Just to clarify my comment doesn't mean I hate Jug I absolutely love Jug but that particular story it was rude on his part to sell the peanuts right outside the store that sold it to him!

1600 cheeses though?... cray-zee! :P

As a cheese lover (I buy bricks of cheese at the supermarket and eat them whole just to try them out), I'd love to see that.

I don't get the Jughead hate either, my friend.  Jughead's probably the most like me personality wise!  He also has the most depth of all the other characters out there.  Archie and Betty are good.  Veronica is spoiled.  Reggie is mischievious.  But, Jughead can be ALL of those things.

It makes him the most human out of all of them...which is surprising, given his non-conformist tendencies!

I guess we'll NEVER see eye to eye on these things, so why not agree to disagree, okay, man?

Which can make for more depth. These characters have been around for years and have had lives that we could only dream about. When you have over 40 writers writing characters for 60 years of course there's going to be inconsistancies. Even Marvel and DC with their supposed continuity are loaded with inconsistancies if you look close enough. Archie is more concerned with entertaining stories that being consistant. For me, Marvel and DC haven't had either good stories or consistancy in years.

Anytime you think you can write better, feel free to submit a script to Archie. But your fanfic is just as inconsistant as the regular books are.

Doesn't stop me from enjoying it though.  ;)

I think of it as Jughead having many facets to his personality. We may see him as just being lazy, but good writers are able to put a reason to why we think he's lazy. At times, they've said that he's very smart and sees no use in wasting energy on a chore.

Think about the stories where Jughead helps out Archie when he has no reason to, other than that he's a good friend. Or the stories where he's able to outsmart Reggie.

There was definitely a period where Jughead stories revolved around nothing more than how much he hates girls (and I think Archie comics might be doing itself a disservice by pushing this aspect of Jughead these days). It wasn't just that he was not interested in girls, but that he hated them. That makes him out to be a bit of an ugly character. But these days, I don't see that aspect that often.

Believe me; I've checked their site, but I can't find any info on how to do that.

Re-reading my response, i thought it came off kind of snarky, which wasn't my intent, Tuxedo. My apologies.

Inconsistanties don't bother as much as they used too.  :)
