It's an old Dan DeCarlo cover from the '60s. (In fact the brown-haired guy looking at Betty is DeCarlo's own caricature of himself.) They usually use new covers but this time they re-colored a classic one.

I wonder why they chose to do this.  Wonder if it's because of the new Retro theme, or if there was an original cover gag planned, but wasn't ready at the time of publication...but even so, I think it's a pretty cool idea.  I do like original cover gags the best, but this is a nice surprise.

July looks to be a fun month. Initial thoughts:

-- Pureheart appearing in TWO June comics (or at least covers)? Looks like he'll be on the Betty cover, plus he and the rest of the Super Teens will be in Archie & Friends Double Digest. Cool!

-- Great, I am finally one comic away from finishing a full set of Archie's Weird Mysteries, and they start collecting them in TPBs. LOL. Oh, well...

-- I have mixed feelings about Archie #623. It's got some of Archie's top talent working on it, and it looks to be fun -- but as far as I can tell, this will be the first Pussycats appearance since Archie's romance with Valerie last year. When the Pussycats left the country, it was pretty clear there were some unresolved feelings between Archie and Valerie, but #623 seems like it's going to be more focused on Archie/Veronica along with the various real-life guest stars. Could be a great stand-alone issue, but seems like a missed opportunity from a long-term continuity perspective.

-- The Sabrina TPB could be fun. I haven't really read any of those issues. Hopefully if it sells well, we'll get more Sabrina TPBs. I'd love to see some classic Silver Age Sabrina stuff as well as a continuation of the Tania Del Rio manga books. Those are hard to find as individual floppy comics!

-- Very excited for the Kevin books. All of the covers I've seen so far are incredible.

-- And then comes Life With Archie, my favorite of the current Archie books. Sounds like the Veronica and Betty storylines will be picking up, but have the Jinx stories been canceled? The main stories are still my favorite, but I've been enjoying Jinx quite a bit too. Hopefully, her absence is just temporary!

Thanks for posting the original cover.  It is interesting to see it recolored and they also added Dan's signature.  I hope I don't miss out on this one.

The Animated Sabrina stories are very young, IMO.  They are cute but the topics aren't really adult driven.  I plan on getting it to quickly read before passing it along to my nieces.

Look at the size of Betty's waist. It is so small. Is that the way all bathing suits made your waist look back in the day? :)

Ah, but you forget all of the stories in which Betty or Veronica are content to be with a cute guy until she realizes the other girl will have Archie to herself. It's quite ridiculous.
