ARCHIE COMICS UNVEILS NEW LOGOS AND TRADE DRESS

Archie Comics, the world's largest English-language publisher of all ages comics, is pleased to unveil a new Archie Comics logo that will appear on all of its comic books, digest/double digests and graphic novels. The new Archie Comics' logo will make its first appearance on the Archie Comic publications scheduled for the newsstand on-sale starting the week of September 15, 2008, commencing with Veronica #190 and Archie Digest #247.

The new trade dress for all of the Archie Digest Library books include new logos for most of the titles as well as secondary logos for popular characters featured in the digests. Characters such as Little Archie, Cheryl Blossom, Reggie, Josie & the Pussycats, just to name a few are featured in the digests every month, but not necessarily on the cover. We now have a trade dress that allows fans of these characters to know exactly where to find their favorite Archie characters.
For more than 67 years, Archie Comics has provided entertainment for all ages. In 2009, Archie Comics is entering a new phase of growth with the launch of two new titles, Archie Comics Presents and Sonic Universe. The new logos on our comics and digests highlights Archie Comics' plans for the future and the new trade dress represents our latest step. Whereby we bring many of our popular characters to the forefront of our fans attention as soon as they see our digests and double digests.

I love most of those logos, but I'm too much of a purist. The old logos have been around since the beginning. I liked having those as a symbol of the books' longevity.

"Kumi" looks like it's the same style as "Disney". I wonder if that was intentional.

Also, has the B&V DD #167 been posted before? I've been doodling character heads and just finished up a Cheryl that looks almost exactly like the one on that cover... OOoooooh. Spooky! :2funny:

Re: the Logos
Archie's & Jughead's - I like them both, but, why is the "s" separate (color-wise)
The one for Betty looks like a sports logo. I'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing.
I like the more cursive looking B&V logo (188, 190 - Where's 189?) rather than the block-ier one (167).

I'm still not a fan of the "Archie Digest" logo, but the other ones look really good, especially the Jughead and Betty and Veronica ones.

Am I safe to assume that Pals N Gals DD, Jughead and Friends, and Tales from Riverdale are remaining the same?

I think it's just that their next issues won't be out in the next couple of months. You know how Archie's digest release schedule is sometimes. :P

Well Jughead & Friends and Tales from Riverdale both had a logo change in # 15 and Pals 'N' Gals had a logo change in # 109 so I think they don't want to change them so soon

I doubt it. I'd remember such a spoiler.

Ooh, please post!

I like the new title logos too, but I'm glad they preserved the look of the "classic" logo in the "Archie" comics logo in the top left corner.  It's sort of a nod to the past.  I'm something of a purist too.

On one hand, you do have a point.  But, then again, this is the 4th new design of the Double Digest logo since 2006!  The one before that had been around since 1993!

I agree that it's very nice that they added the headshots to the B&V logos. It's strange that they didn't do it for the Archie digests. I wonder why they need separate fonts for a regular digest and a separate one for the double digest of the same character.

I love the shadow hat for Jughead.

And what happened to Rex Lindsey? So much Dan Parent needs to be offset by a good dose of Lindsey! I noticed he hasn't been on recent Jughead issues. I hope he hasn't left the title.

This seems like a very superficial and unneeded change. Like others have said, the Archie character logos are CLASSIC and so recognisable already, I don't see how this is going to bring in any new readers, and it may only turn off the existing fans. The 'Powers That Be' are probably hoping to get a little free press coverage because of the change.

These wacky colors are ONLY for web display. However the JUGHEAD art looks like it is probably the actual newstand version.
The actual covers of most of these will be colored more traditionally I suspect.
