  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

New Archie Books
« on: April 15, 2011, 01:19:58 AM »
While searching Twitter for Archie Comics earlier, I found reference to an upcoming book called The Best of Archie Comics, to be released in October. That got me curious as to what else was coming soon.

A quick search on Amazon reveals the following. Lots of great stuff coming!

Archie & Friends All-Stars series:
Best of Jughead: Crowning Achievements - April 26th
Best of Sabrina the Teenage Witch - November 22nd

IDW:
Best of Dan DeCarlo, Vol. 2 - April 19th (this Tuesday)
Archie: Seven Decades of America's Favorite Teenagers... and Beyond! - April 20th (Amazon says July 12th, but a recent press release says otherwise)
Archie's Mad House - April 26th
Archie's Joke Book Volume 1: A Celebration of Bob Montana Gags - June 7th
Archie Americana Volume 1: The 40s - July 5th (this collects both volumes of Archie Americana Series: The 40s into a nice hardcover book)
Archie Americana Volume 2: The 50s - August 9th
Archie: The Best of Harry Lucey, Vol. 1 - August 23rd

Random House:
The Best of Archie Comics - October 18th (416-page book featuring "The best stories of the past 70 years from Archie")

I'm really looking forward to all of those IDW collections, particularly the last one. I already have several of the Americana Series books, so I don't know if I'll be investing in the Americana books, but I will definitely try to get as many of the others as possible.

Also, most of these can be pre-ordered on Amazon for less than cover price.

It is a wonderful time for us comic collectors! The number of high-quality reprints in hardcover is astounding.  From the strips to the origins, to classic story lines - every issue of Previews amazing!

I'm particularly looking forward to the Harry Lucey book. Will definitely be ordering these over the coming weeks (may as well pre-order them while they're cheap!)

Oh haha didn't realize you posted this also. I posted another one with covers as well. I always use amazon to see what upcoming graphic novels haven't been announced yet.

Archie Comics was my favorite comics in the 80's. I remembered we used to swap comics with my classmates every weekend.

New book out in comic shops today:  "Archie: A Celebration of America's Favorite Teenagers" was released.

I really like it so far!  It's more of an overview of the company, characters, creators and covers - so not reprint book per se.  It's great though!  Nice information on different aspects of the Archie world and those that are in it.

Craig asked me, and I was foolish enough to be willing to spend a whole lot of hours scanning them...

:).  I wish he would have asked me for some of my original art collection to be included :)

The covers are pretty awesome - there are a lot of them in the back of the book in a series of top-10's.

Is the Jughead's Follies yours?  I have one as well, but thought it was supposed to be rare. I'm thinking scarce at best.

Yes, it's mine. And it's really not rare at all. I've owned a half dozen over the years and seen probably 30 others...

It was listed in the Guide as rare (less than 10 known copies) for a long time - I was always suspicious that it wasn't so rare - but it is really cool.

Did you see the PEP 22 on eBay?  It's coverless and I came very, very close to trying to get it - until I looked at the scans.  It's so brittle that it would probably shatter in transit.  Too bad - even a coverless copy would be nice at this point.  I think a 2.0 would be at least $10K and up - which my wife says is too much :)

I'll either be pre-ordering it from Overstock.com or looking for it at my local comic shop on FCBD
