  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.
    May 21, 2012, 07:57:37 AM
  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)
    May 21, 2012, 07:23:13 AM
  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

PEN PALS FOR LIFE
« on: August 19, 2007, 12:49:07 PM »
Archie Comics,

38 years ago I was at a friend's house reading the Archie Comics and came across the pen pal section....we closed our eyes and pointed to a name... I pointed to a name I could not even pronounce then and she lived in

Zambia

... 38 years later we are still writing and she lives in
England

now and is coming to visit me in
Florida

July 28th thru August 11th ...
thank you Archie Comic Books for your pen pal sections.

Hilda,

This is really a great story. It's so nice to hear that Archie Comics helped you make a life long friend. If you wouldn't mind sending me a photo when pen pal comes to visit I would like to put a picture of the two of you on our website along with your email.

Rik

Rik,

Well, my pen pal stayed for two weeks and left on August 11, 2007.  What a wonderful time we both had... people could not believe our story of meeting in the Archie Comic Books... we both thank Archie Comics for letting us find a lifelong friend.  From the bottom of our hearts... thank you

Hilda Ann Hellwig

P.S.  Hope you like the pic

Yeah, this is a great story. Do they still have pen pal sections? I'd imagine it's all email nowadays.

These days we can't give out readers home addresses, the world isn't as safe for kids anymore. :(

Yeah, these days you couldn't do that because of all the weirdos out there. I'm not even sure it would be legal to give out that info without parental consent...

...I'm aware that people are more paranoid about giving out addresses , that is true , but I tend to doubt that " the world's not safe anymore " .
I tend to think that there are other reasons for the IMPRESSION of " you can't do ______ anymore " , and I'll go into detail about this , if you'd like !
That said , yeah , a few years back there was a reprint from Marvel of the material from issue #100 of MILLIE THE MODEL , from 1961 , this comic ( like Katy Keene - she did it first , didn't she???? ) did " reader-contributed fashions " , with credit - and address !!!!!!!!! - given , and even some additional " runner-up " addresses , IIRC - and , the issue also published some similar material from another Marvel title of that time , in that vein , PATSY AND HEDY , I think that it was !!!!!!!!! - all these addresses , all over the place - All pre-Zip Codes being used , I believe - 60s addresses in a 2000s comic book !!!!!!!!! Marvel did some reprints of early AVENGERS issues recently in a title , Classic Avengers - or Avengers Classic <bangs head> - which reprinted the original letter columns from each issue of Avengers that it was then , too !
