  • Archie Comics Collector: Jughead and Archie #3 is worth it and very good. Lead story has Jughead trying to be Pop's best customer with great art by Rex Lindsey. One in which Jughead's sister Jellybean is in danger which was one of my favorites, another where Jughead is stuck in a doggy door. One where Jughead trys to avoid excercise and is funnny the work he does to avoid this and more great ones and some good Wilkin boy stories.

THE ART OF ARCHIE: THE COVERS
« on: February 26, 2013, 12:01:32 PM »
CALLING ALL ARCHIE FANS!

We here at Archie Comics are turning to our fans for some help putting together our next big project! As you know, Archie’s Editor-in-Chief/Co-President Victor Gorelick collaborated with famed comic book historian Craig Yoe in putting together The Art of Betty & Veronica, Archie’s first-ever hardcover art book. If you haven’t picked it up yet, it highlights some of the most iconic images of the legendary characters, as well as the artists behind them.

This time around, Victor and Craig are re-teaming and setting their sights on the most iconic covers in Archie history. In addition to their favorite covers, we want to know yours, too!

Check out the blog post on the main Archie Comics site to read Victor’s appeal and get the story behind this upcoming art book as well as catch a glimpse of some of his own personal favorite covers! http://www.archiecomics.com/Blogs/tabid/97/EntryId/1241/THE-ART-OF-ARCHIE-THE-COVERS-FAN-SUBMISSIONS.aspx

Let us know what you’d like to see featured in The Art of Archie: The Covers. Post here on this thread either with an image or the title and issue number for consideration and possible inclusion in the final compilation.
We can’t wait to see what you guys like so make your voice heard!

I love the early covers - They have big, clean images with uncluttered backgrounds and punchy, snarky gags.  They have a lot of Newstand 'POP'.

I find that later covers can be really cluttered with too much detail, especially the tiny figures tucked along the titles. For my tastes, they're too BUSY.

Another thing: Betty & Veronica had the unbeatable combo of beautifully drawn shapely pin-up figures topped by very 'cartoony' expressive faces. Thats why I love the early years - the B&V of the '40s and '50s are adorable, but they aren't as blandly 'pretty' as today's versions.
