  • JonInIowaCity: I might have exaggerated with "emergency." More like "unexpected." I went to the podiatrist about chronic heal pains. She gave me inserts for that, but became immediately concerned about an infected toe nail that I'd been ignoring. She numbed the toe and snipped off a portion of the nail! It was kind of freaky!!!

  • SaveFearow: But Lil Jinx and Bingo are not ongoing. They are older stories that get reprinted sometimes. And maybe people would like to read them?

  • SaveFearow: I don't scan every comic I have because I want people to still buy the issues and not lower Archie's sales.

  • SaveFearow: about the gallery: would anyone be interested in me scanning Lil Jinx or Bingo stories and keeping them in a separate folder?

The Library of Congress Reports: Archie Loves Robert Frost

Robert Frost was an American poet and the Poet Laureate to the Library of Congress from 1958 to 1959. A popular and often-quoted poet, Frost was honored frequently during his lifetime, including receiving four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry. He is arguably the most widely known poet of the 20th Century. His poetry continues to be enjoyed by millions of people … including Archie Andrews!

In ARCHIE #602, Archie is thinking about his life so far; imagines marrying Veronica Lodge and reading his favorite poem, “The Road Less Traveled” by Robert Frost, to their two children. But in ARCHIE #603, Archie goes down a lane that splits into two paths and takes a less-traveled one, just as Robert Frost described in his poem.  By selecting a different route for his walk, the story changes dramatically as Archie sees what his life would be like with Betty Cooper!

Archie’s decision to choose between Betty & Veronica, as well as his love of Robert Frost's poetry, recently reached the U.S. Library of Congress. The story is being covered at http://www.loc.gov/poetry/archiecomic.html.

I love the poem too...we actually did an in-depth analysis of "The Road Not Taken" in my ninth grade English class.

BRAVO! BRAVO!

Archie comics IS far more than just cute teen-oriented comics for children; it HAS mentioned George Orwell's 1984 and "Rosebud" from Orson Welles' famous movie, Citizen Kane (it was featured in that story where Archie saved an old lady from being kicked out of her own home by a greedy antique dealer, BTW!)

What's more, some Archie comics DO feature some great cartooning and writing skills (think Dan DeCarlo and Harry Lucey, for instance.)
