Got my copy in the mail today. Loved it, Fernando! Was fun, dynamic, colorful, and as always, I love the little jokes you put in the backgrounds. Great job to everyone involved. Looking forward to the next issue. :)

Thanks, Gigi. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Everybody really put their best effort into this one. Tom gave me an excellent, FUN script to draw. Rich Koslowski did a BEAUTIFUL job on my pencils. Tom Chu really made everything pop with his colors. Of course, Jack Morelli continues to prove why hand lettering is so much better than computer lettering. He is the ninja master of lettering!

I'm also happy you caught my little background gags. They're like messages in a bottle. I throw them out into the ocean never knowing if anyone is reading them.

I wonder if anyone has caught ALL of them!!!

I really enjoyed this and am looking forward to future instalments. I think this is a good example of how Archie can nod towards its past (and obviously this wouldn't exist without Life With Archie and Little Archie) while also being contemporary and telling a good story.

And I'm still going through all the background gags, but I appreciated seeing a tip of the hat to the Tacky Toy Company robots where it all started.

Thanks for the nice entry, Gregg. You got Falcon 7, Steed, and Norman's Taxidermy! I'm impressed!

Nothing from Page 18 though?

Page 18? interior of Mad Doc Doom's lab, I assume? (Don' t have the book handy.) I saw the items and knew they probably referred to something...

Here's where I really suck. I'm betting that all of those were from Little Archie stories I've never read. Why, I hear you cry? Depsite an appreciation of Bob and Dexter's work, the whole concept of Little Archie annoys the hell out of me. Even though it was most likely the first, it's similar to Flintstone Kids, Muppet Babies, and others of those ilk. I have no doubt of the high quality of the Little Archie stories, as everyone here raves about them. I've read a few (maybe 2 or 3), but I just can't get into them. And if something annoys me, I don't read it.  What's really funny is that I can easily accept the other "alternate" Archies (Man from Riverdale, Pureheart, Archie1, Explorers of the Unknown, etc.) I dunno why little Archie just rubs me wrong as a concept.

*shrugs*

Great work on this book though, Fernando. I'd say some of your best since Archie's Weird Mysteries!

Here's one for you though... is that you watching the girl on the bike and dropping the pizza? I almost added that then edited it out at the last minute 'cause I wasn't sure. I remember you did something similar on the "Civil Chores" storyline...

Gregg may eventually learn to like "Little Archie." It helps to skip the ones where they're acting like pint-sized versions of the Archie characters. The best of them are really just a great comic in a different style from Archie.  If it helps, just forget that they're supposed to be the Archie characters; in the best stories, they have different relationships anyway (Little Archie wasn't interested romantically in Betty or Veronica until the editors ordered Dexter Taylor to retool the comic in the late '60s). Here are some great early stories: http://greatestape.blogspot.com/search/label/bob%20bolling And yes, it was the first of its kind; all the other kiddified versions came later.

I don't see stuff on page 18 but on page 19, in Doom's lab, I see one of the Tacky Toy Company robots from Little Archie # 24 (his and Chester's debut), the Time Taxi (which first appeared in Little Archie # 32 and which Doom has been using ever since).

Thanks for the nice comments, Everyone. I'm really glad you're enjoying this issue. I really hope Tom and I get to do more Man From R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E.

Gregg, no. That's not me. I do however put in an appearance in this story in one of the later issues.

Speaking of Little Archie, on Page 4 in Panel 4, you see a picture of Little Archie's pet dog, Spotty. One of the gags we throw around the Archie offices is the question of what happened to Spotty and why he isn't around by the time of Archie's teen years. Most of us conclude Spotty is probably up in Doggy Heaven somewhere.

There are still a couple of other inside gags and cameos in this issue that have so far been left unmentioned, but I don't want to ruin anyone's fun!

By the way, I was a BIG fan of Little Archie when I was a kid. I was especially a fan of the Dexter Taylor stories which were the ones coming out when I was reading it. I really hope to get a shot at drawing some Little Archie real soon...
