  • Archie Comics Collector: @spazaru- I would think they would keep that vault section as it is so unique to the annuals and jumbo comics. We will find out next month when the first jumbo 288 pager releases. As for good old Stan Goldberg, I am a #1 fan, of early and late Stan Goldberg. Obviously his art in later years was not at the same level as his early years, his art just says Archie to me and his work on the original Archie Marries storyline got me back into Archie comics and I have not looked back since so I credit him for that. @John, looking forward to the new stories in the upcoming digests.

  • SaveFearow: which do you think is a better value, the Jumbos or the 1000 pagers?
  • spazaru: I saw that Jon.  Hopefully they'll keep that up!
  • JonInIowaCity: The positive side about the jumbos is that they are now including new material and not just reprints.
  • spazaru: I agree ACC.  The Jumbo Comics are the best.  I just hope the page decrease doesn't come out of the Classic Vault section.  They can take it out of the latter period Stan Goldberg and I wouldn't miss it! Ha ha.

  • spazaru: Thanks for calling ACC.  That sucks, especially with the latest price increase.

  • Archie Comics Collector: Just called Archie, Jumbo comics digests are going to be decreased to 288 pages starting with Betty and Veronica Friends #240 appearing later next month. The last jumbo comics at 320 pages seems to be Jughead and Archie #5 being released in the next few weeks.

  • SaveFearow: nice blog Jon. I'll miss LWA too but it had a good run and a very sweet epilogue.

  • spazaru: sorry, got cut off.  You're right, they are 288 pages.  Let us know what you find out after you call Archie.
  • spazaru: Thanks ACC!  I hadn't noticed it until the October solicits but I looked back at August going forward, and you
    Yesterday at 11:07:52 PM
  • JonInIowaCity: I just blogged about LWA 37. [link]  I'll write up some stuff later in the week about last week's Mega Man and this week's Afterlife.

  • Archie Comics Collector: @I meant to say that there are no longer any logos on the cover from that B&V Friends 240 and on mentioning 320 pages and Giant Sized and that this issues descriptions just show 288 pages as you mentioned.
  • Archie Comics Collector: @spazaru- Good eye, but that is not the only jumbo issue that seems to have 288 pages. Starting with the August solicitations with Betty and Veronica Friends 240 Jumbo comics, all Jumbo comics shown in the solicits from then on to the current solicits no longer have the logo Giant Sized and 320 Pages but 288 pages. Jughead with Archie Jumbo comics #5 is the last one coming in a few weeks that still shows 320 pages and Giant Sized. I will call Archie tommorrow and see if this changing as shown in the solicits.
  • spazaru: I noticed in the October solicits on Archiecomics.com, the Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics is only 288 pages instead of 320.  If that's true, that's kind of a rip since they just raised the price.  Hopefully it's not a trend, but just that issue.
  • JonInIowaCity: What I'd really like to see though is a series featuring Star Andrews. Or something featuring LWA's Jellybean Jones.
  • BettyReggie: I hope we get a magazine that similar to Life with Archie but focuses on Reggie & Betty & Veronica & Jughead,

Two new writers join Archie Comics
« on: March 29, 2008, 04:53:59 AM »
Two new writers join Archie Comics, and bring with them two new students to Riverdale High.

Jesús Gil Holguín, is one of the best known comic book professionals in Mexico, where he has been translating American comics into Spanish, and editing the Mexican editions of American comics for the past 25 years. He started at Editorial Novaro, the most important comic book publishing company in Latin America. He was a regular collaborator in a weekly radio show about comics, and has given a series of conferences about comics throughout Mexico. In 2005, Jesús started publishing Spanish Language editions of Archie Comics in Mexico. Jesús is writing his first script for Archie Comics. The story will feature the first Mexican addition to Riverdale High when Toño Diaz is introduced.

Toño was born in Mexico, and assists his parents, Adrián and Rosa in their party planning business. Rosa handles Public Relations and the administrative part of the business, while Adrián is responsible for the creative and labor portions of the family business. Toño enjoys helping them with gardening and decoration, but the part he likes the most is cooking. He wants to become a great chef when he grows up. The Diaz family has been hired by Mr. Lodge to plan events for the city of Riverdale. As a result, the family has relocated to Riverdale.

Join Toño and his entire family for their first Riverdale adventure in Pals ‘n’ Gals #123 on sale in July, 2008

Toño’s first appearance will be released simultaneously in the United States and in Mexico.

Misako Takashima developed a love for comics and manga at an early age, and drew her first comic at the age of 13. She moved to New York in 2001, and worked as a puppeteer, face painter, animal balloon maker and art teacher, while still developing her own work. She's been featured in many magazines and newspapers, including Elle Girl and the New York Times, and the BBC recently featured her in a documentary about comic book creators. Misako currently lives in Brooklyn.

Kumi Tamura is a shy, cute and goofy Japanese girl. She doesn't think she's goofy or funny. However, when Archie, Betty and the others meet her, they think she is very funny. She wants to be taller, so every morning she drinks a lot of milk, believing this will help her grow. She likes reading Japanese girls’ comics and believes that someday she will meet a gorgeous boy in America. She arrives in Riverdale with her younger sister, Ami Tamura. Compared to Kumi, Ami is outgoing, fun and a positive girl. Ami and Kumi often have fights and usually Ami wins. Ami goes crazy for cute boys, and she is excited to meet a lot of tall American boys! When she finds something/somebody who she really likes, she usually doesn't give up until she gets it, or them! Oh boy...

Kumi’s Mom is very kind and sweet… but she's obsessed with keeping their home clean. Therefore, when the kids have fights or make a mess, she gets crazy and looses her mind!! Kumi’s Dad is an engineer. Even though he's busy, he tries to make time for his girls as much as he can. When Mom gets crazy, he's really good at calming her down.

Kumi and her family will be moving to Riverdale shortly.

Interesting back stories. Jughead will now have to choose between Tono and Betty as to whose home-made food he should eat. Kumi's parents also sound similar to my own, but I guess it's an East Asian (Chinese/Japanese/Korean) thing.
Zach uses:

Guitars: Washburn WV16 (shown in display pic), Cort X6, Godin BG5 5-string bass, Squire P-Bass, Squire P-Bass Special

Equipment: Ashdown Engineering, Marshall, Smokey Amplification, EMG, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, BOSS, EHX, Digitech, Ibanez, Jim Dunlop, Ernie Ball Strings

Jughead's Pseudo World Tour (rated T+) (Pt.7 posted 20-12-08)

A situation like this should never exist - then why are we out of control?

Looks very interesting.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of background does one need to become a writer at Archie comics?  As someone who wants to make writing a career goal, I'd like to know what ACP is looking for. :)

I'm enjoying the diversity in Riverdale and I hope the writers bring along a fresh slate of stories with them.

And as always, I hope these new characters stick.

A character named Kumi? Is this a coincidence, or has Archie Comics found out about my favorite singer?

I created the Wiki article and asked if I could use a cropped pic from an album. I said, because she's (presumably) still alive, it would be possible to get a free use pic of her, so I couldn't use an album pic.

Still, you can see her here:

Tuxedo Mark - any thoughts on Ayumi Hamasaki or, my favorite, Hikaru Utada?

What about another Asian girl named Tomoko, BTW?

It's very nice to see the racial diversity growing in Riverdale, though it's of course still a cartoon town where ANYTHING can happen (remember Samm Schwartz and Harry Lucey, BTW!) ;D
