ARCHIES DOUBLE DIGEST #193
In a full length story that was hidden from Victor Gorelick, the entire Archie staff worked behind the scenes and at home to hide the story before publication. PALS-N-GALS DOUBLE DIGEST #126
THE SECOND PART OF A NEW FOUR-PART STORY IN THE "DYNAMIC NEW LOOK" AND THIS TIME, MOOSE & MIDGES ROMANCE HANGS IN THE BALANCE!
"Break-up Blues Part 2": Last issue, Midge decided to take a break from her possessive boyfriend Moose and Moose obliged! Now with Midge and Moose dating others, the once close-knit friends at Riverdale High are awash in turmoil! Even though hes taken Midge out on a few dates, Reggie is having second-thoughts as Midge is obviously missing Moose and Reggie is missing the cat-and- mouse game he used to have so much fun playing with Moose! Does Reggie hold the key in getting Moose and Midge back together or will his involvement only draw Midge closer to him? And what will Mooses new girlfriend Judy Johnson have to say about it? Its romantic intrigue served up in the "realistic" art style that made both Betty and Veronicas "Bad Boy Trouble" and Jugheads "Matchmakers" some of the most talked about Archie stories in recent years! Veteran penciler Tod Smith and journeyman inker Al Milgrom carry on that popular style in what is sure to be the most explosive Archie Comics story of the year!

How in the world did the Archie staff manage to keep that story a secret?

At any rate, much success to Victor in his success.

Not that it's in my place to say this, but... Trade secret. Either way, once again, congrats to Victor, and kudos to the Archie team for honoring Richard and Michael's wishes.

The rest of the comics are all lookin' good - can't wait to get them.

Looking forward to the Victor tribute and also to the Jughead one.

My only gripe is the shrinking size of the digests and double digests tickedoff

Yeah same here! I've been reading Archie since 2001, and when I picked up one of the 80's digests for the first time, it felt like I was holding two in my hand instead of one!

Congratulations again, Victor!

I'm a little sad too, that the digests have been thinning a bit, but, it's always encouraging to see new stories and awesome cover art... and of course, I often re-read earlier digests. ^_^

See, the first time they shrunk (from 128 pages to 96 in 1992), I thought it had something to do with the switch to recycled paper products.  I don't know what's happened this time, unless the economic woes have forced the publication to do this measure to cut costs.

Rik, please pass our gripes on to whoever decided to cut pages from the comics. I realize costs have gone up, but that doesn't mean the comics should shrink.

Sometimes, as is the case when it comes to groceries, product size is decreased while the cost of the item remains the same. Usually customers don't notice, because the changes are minimal but, in the case of comics, and also, where collectors are concerned, it's *really* easy to compare the current comics with past digests... so, perhaps it's a matter of preference: Which would you prefer, comics that give you less for the same price, or comics that cost more that have the same amount of content.

It could be, too, that they're trying to pace themselves at Archie Comics with the re-distribution of older stories.
