I love the idea of more "structured" reprints such as the Sonic books.  Now all we need are hardcover, re-coioured, prestige edition reprints of:  PEP, Archie, Archie's Girls Betty & Veronica, Life with Archie and Archie's Pal Jughead.... oh... and then Little Archie, Laugh.....  Smiley

Don't let Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and all the other publishers have all the fun! Pull those dollars from our pockets!  Smiley

Naughty or Nice indeed!

Dan Parent's art continues to impress.  I personally think it's getting even better over time.

I also really like the Sonic layouts - the "island in the sky" splash is really nice.

I guess I'm the only one here that doesn't see the appeal of it.

I have no idea that we're still using the word 'Chauvinist' in the 21st century...

By any chance - do you where glasses?  Because if you can't see the appeal in the art then you might want to get your eyes checked.... Smiley

Joking...joking....

Okay.  Maybe not "totally" joking.

Everyone has different tastes so some folks might not be as amazed at certain artists as others.  I've written extensively on why I like Dan Parent's artwork so much and I'll be the first to admit his style is unique - which is why I like it so much!

The one element that always strikes me with his art is the "personality" of the characters.  I think they just leap off the page with excitement and character.

Hi Frank,

Have I ever told you what a sharp, intelligent , insightful person you were?

Dan

Smiley  haha!

well... not to be "too" much of a "fanboy" - here's a couple quick notes on what I think is very, very good about this particular set of pages:

1) The cover.  Good use of space and positioning.  Girls frame a confused Archie and they are "cute"
2) Page one.  Splash.  We rarely see the characters touching each other (at least in this more casual/friendlier manner).  It is very affectionate.
3) Page two panels 3.5.6 - great action/reaction work!  Betty "rolling" her eyes to Veronica's closed-eyes condescending look in panel 3, Archie's classic cartoon "shock" look in 5, and the girls "united" in 6.

Not that I pay very much attention to this sort of stuff... Smiley  lol.

oh.. and something I've noticed that I like about your artwork is what I call the "classic Dan Parent open/closed eye" technique.  You seem to have one character with eyes closed and one with eyes open then they are speaking with each other which I feel creates visual support for the "bantering" feeling of the dialogue that is part of comic (as in comedic) dialogue.

ga... can't help myself.

I also like the dog walking past with the floating question mark on the last of these sample pages.

It's VERY old-school, classic Archie.

Pretty astute observation, Frank!  I never noticed that before!

I usually really like the stories with Jingles, but, it's a nice surprise to see Sugar Plum too. I don't remember her being in too many comics, and was happy to see her in the newest B&V. ... I *don't* seem to remember her having blond hair though, and thought she was a red-head?
