  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Archie's Weird Mysteries: The Complete Series-February 2012

Long story short: Mill Creek Entertainment is releasing a 4-DVD box set collecting the Archie's Weird Mysteries cartoon, tentatively scheduled for next February.

Don't expect a superior quality product.  Mill Creek usually releases value-priced DVDs and I doubt there will be lots of extras.  OTOH, it is nice to see the series get a new DVD release.

I watched the episodes on YouTube and I found the quality to be uneven.  Overall, I felt it was decent and I'll probably buy the set.  What do you think?

Offline PTF

I thought it was pretty good what few episodes I was able to catch. I really like the voice talent more after watching the Filmation series. :)

Aweosme news.  I have the stand alone DVD with 4 episodes and I really liked it.  It was like your usual Archie stuff crossed with Martin Mystery or something.  Very cool.  I also liked the random subtext in the few episodes I watched. XD

Such as?

I enjoyed the series and saw every episode. I think I had every episode on tape, too, but I lost countless tapes in March of 2010 when my local used bookstore closed (the owner was holding a bunch of tapes for me to save them from mom's wrath), so I likely don't have very many episodes on tape anymore. :(

I'm definitely looking forward to the DVD release, even if there are no extras.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

I won't elaborate, because I don't want to derail the thread.  XD  But I'm a subtext junkie.  In fact, it's one of the top reasons I read Archie comics.  I'm sure I notice stuff that would soar over most people's heads.  Maybe when I get the boxset I'll watch the whole thing and do a thread on what I can find in it.  Too bad we'll have to wait for 2012.  Ugh.

Well, it actually beign on DVD is a step forward.  I can think of several other awesome cartoons that have yet to get a full DVD release at all.  I don't care about extras, but 4 DVDs is kind of dissapointing.  Hopefully, the episodes at least manage to get a decent bitrate.

Edit:  I thought it was 26 episodes on 4 discs.  LOL.  40 on 4 discs?  That's just insane.  Well, I'll still be buying it.

I missed the 4 discs part. Eep! Well, that's 10 episodes per disc. Let's see. Gundam Wing is 5 episodes per disc, but they're bilingual, and they also include trailers and other extras, and they come out to 6.5 GB per disc, which is less than the dual-layer capacity of...8.x GB (I forget exactly). With no extras and only one audio track, I think AWM can manage 10 episodes per disc, assuming each disc is filled to capacity. I think it's Mill Creek that also put "Renegade" on DVD. Each DVD contains 4 or 5 episodes (each of which is twice the length of an AWM episode).

Will Mill Creek Entertainment ever release on DVD these other Archie/DIC projects:
The New Archies Complete Series (13 1/2 hour episodes from 1987)
Archie - To Riverdale and Back Again (1990 TV movie)

I hope also Mill Creek Entertainment, which has reissued DVD sets of Filmation cartoons and TV shows following the demise of BCI, re-releases the complete DVD sets of The Archie Show, Archie's Funhouse, and Filmation Sabrina. Maybe Mill Creek could even release DVD sets of Archie's TV Funnies and U.S. of Archie.

New copies of Filmation's The Archie Show, Archie's Funhouse and Sabrina the Teenage Witch can still be found on Amazon.com (I just got mine in the mail Saturday, minus Sabrina, which we already had).  The Archie Show is also available on a "10 episode" (actually 5 half-hour shows) disc "The Archies: 10 Riverdale High Adventures, which is a good sampler for those who aren't sure whether they'd be able to sit through 17 Filmation produced Archie cartoons (let's face it, Filmation was NOT known for their high-quality animation...although Archie fared much better than poor Tom and Jerry and Droopy in Filmation's hands!)

Wow. Looks real nice plus some bonus episodes from the Sabrina series and...Mona the Vampire? Eh, it's extra and free.

Can't wait, by Feb I might actually be able to afford to buy something and good timing too. :)

4 discs for 40 episodes is way too little.  These things are going to be motion noise nightmares.  But I guess it's better than not having them available.  I will definitely buy these and see how well I can deconstruct the episodes.  lol

Offline Tuxedo Mark

40 episodes on 4 discs is bad enough, but bonus episodes of other series in addition to that? These episodes are likely gonna look really bad.

Also, I just looked at my bargain bin "Renegade" set from Mill Creek. Expect the discs to be in black sleeves within the box, unfastened.

I'm sure the quality will be OK. I'm expecting the discs to be double sided.

I really hope you're right.  I mean, for most companies, 9 episodes is the max they put on a blu-ray, not a DVD.  I don't think I've ever seen a DVD with 10 episodes on it.  The max has probably been 7.

I'm going to take a pass on this DVD Box Set of Archie's Weird Mysteries and sticking with reruns of the cartoon classic Scooby-Doo Cartoons most from the 1969-1971 version, 1972-1974 one hour version, 1976-1978 version, 1979 version and the 1983-1984, 1984-1985 versions and yes even What's New Scooby-Doo.
