  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Archie radio show
« on: February 17, 2007, 01:02:34 PM »
I wasn't sure which category to put this in, but we might as well make this the "Other Media" category.

How many people have listened to the old Archie radio show?

I found 6 episodes in MP3 format here:

http://www.radiolovers.com/pages/archieandrews.htm

I saw an episode guide somewhere that listed 26 episodes. Surely, there's more than that.

Anyway, I just thought I'd start a thread about the radio show. Please post any information (voice actor names, number of episodes, episode status, etc.) and impressions that you have of the series.

Wow those 6 episodes are great! Thanks for posting it. I didn't really know there had been an Archie radio show, but those eps seem to be from 1947 & '48. Jughead's voice sounds like Jerry Lewis doing a crazy kid impersonation! :2funny:
The names of the actors doing the voices are mentioned, and the only name I recognized was Bob Hastings (Archie's voice), who went on to play Carpenter in the McHale's Navy TV show in the 60's.

Yeah, Bob Hastings also voiced Commissioner James Gordon on "Batman: The Animated Series" in the 1990s.

I was wondering about the voice cast prior to the NBC years. Anyone have any names?

I wouldn't call those shows great. I have a few complaints:

1) Jughead's voice is horrid.

2) Each show is the same, focusing on Mr. Andrews' woes. Really, Mr. Andrews is not the center of the universe.

3) No Riverdale High - or anything outside of the Andrews family and Archie's closest friends.

4) There's too much filler conversation.

Google brings up quite a few pages on the show :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archie_Andrews_(comics)#Archie_on_radio
http://www.otr.net/?p=arch - 7 more episodes in Real Audio format (the other two are on the site mentioned earlier in this topic)
http://www.otrcat.com/archieandrews.htm - another free episode in MP3 format. You can also purchase a CD containing 29 shows (also in MP3 format) for $5

Apparently the show was quite successful, lasting 10 years.

Thanks for the links!

Hmm, according to the description on the page with the MP3, Mr. Weatherbee appears, which likely means some episodes were set in Riverdale High.

Ooh, and Reggie's in it, too? Awesome.

I love the fact that in an Archie's Weird Mystery episode ("A Teen in Time) the opening line of the radio show that Archie and Jughead say every "episode" was said.

Archie Comics also has some on their website at http://www.archiecomics.com/radio/radio.html but not nearly as many as on those two archive.org pages.

I was downloading some old Christmas radio show podcasts, and I came across an episode of Archie that was all about Christmas shopping. It was a lot of fun. Interestingly, they played Veronica with a southern accent -- though no one else had an accent.

Found a handful of other episodes on iTunes podcasts and will check them out over the next week.
