why have there been no cartoons since Archie's Weird Mysteries?
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:03:22 AM »
that was the best animated archie series and yet nothing since then....guessing they don't have much of a budget

Offline Biollante

Well, it would be other companies making the show and fronting the bill for production, so I guess they haven't been interested sadly.

that sucks...the other archie cartoons are pretty terrible  somebody needs to make a good archie series or a reboot of weird mysteries since a standard archie series wouldn't be any different than an animated sitcom

The economy.

Animation is expensive!

(SIGH)

I'm still waiting for them to release the rest of the 6teen series on DVD. but..the economy.

Best Archie cartoon is Josie and the Pussycats!

Some of these shows would sell on DVD.  I think sometimes the broadcast licensors also gobble up home video rights and then sit on them for reasons other than making money from the home video market.  Definitely the case with Totally Spies and a number of other shows that have been on Cartoon Network I think.

The Kids Network Qubo will start airing Archie's Weird Mysteries this month so maybe that will stir up interest for a new series...probably not but it's better than nothing

Let's not forget about the new Sabrina series! We're supposed to see that next year. I'm really excited about it.

has much been revealed about that?

it just seems like Archie characters just aren't popular enough for networks to want to use them

Offline Steveinthecity

Wouldn't networks want to develop newer properties?  Something like the Archies brings with it quite a bit of history(baggage) and would be problematic if the creators put out a cartoon that strayed too far from the originals in terms of characters and genre.  Pretty high expectations would go hand in hand with bringing back such well known  characters, I would assume.

Apparently, some footage was shown at SDCC. There are a few stills online, it looks like a pretty big departure from what we've seen in the past.

Wasn't a live action Archie/Riverdale series planned for TV in 2005 following a talent search but was soon withdrawn and never made it to the TV airwaves?

Offline Captain Hero

Even if a new cartoon series was brought back, when would it air?  Saturday morning cartoons have been basically on life-support since the 1990s.  Do any of the three main networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) air cartoons anymore?  Unless they have an exclusive contract with cable, I can't see another cartoon being developed.

Yep. There was a big ad in several comic books around that time about a movie, TV show and possibly more. No idea whatever happened with that though. Same can be said for the video game that has been rumored to be in production for the past 6 years...

I was just thinking. Maybe a sitcom about That Wilkin Boy? I mean, you have two kids in love plus their dads hating each other. I think it could work on the CW. :)
