  • Archie Comics Collector: @spazaru- I would think they would keep that vault section as it is so unique to the annuals and jumbo comics. We will find out next month when the first jumbo 288 pager releases. As for good old Stan Goldberg, I am a #1 fan, of early and late Stan Goldberg. Obviously his art in later years was not at the same level as his early years, his art just says Archie to me and his work on the original Archie Marries storyline got me back into Archie comics and I have not looked back since so I credit him for that. @John, looking forward to the new stories in the upcoming digests.

  • SaveFearow: which do you think is a better value, the Jumbos or the 1000 pagers?
  • spazaru: I saw that Jon.  Hopefully they'll keep that up!

  • JonInIowaCity: The positive side about the jumbos is that they are now including new material and not just reprints.

  • spazaru: I agree ACC.  The Jumbo Comics are the best.  I just hope the page decrease doesn't come out of the Classic Vault section.  They can take it out of the latter period Stan Goldberg and I wouldn't miss it! Ha ha.

  • Archie Comics Collector: Just called Archie, Jumbo comics digests are going to be decreased to 288 pages starting with Betty and Veronica Friends #240 appearing later next month. The last jumbo comics at 320 pages seems to be Jughead and Archie #5 being released in the next few weeks.

  • spazaru: sorry, got cut off.  You're right, they are 288 pages.  Let us know what you find out after you call Archie.

  • spazaru: Thanks ACC!  I hadn't noticed it until the October solicits but I looked back at August going forward, and you

  • JonInIowaCity: I just blogged about LWA 37. [link]  I'll write up some stuff later in the week about last week's Mega Man and this week's Afterlife.

  • Archie Comics Collector: @I meant to say that there are no longer any logos on the cover from that B&V Friends 240 and on mentioning 320 pages and Giant Sized and that this issues descriptions just show 288 pages as you mentioned.
  • Archie Comics Collector: @spazaru- Good eye, but that is not the only jumbo issue that seems to have 288 pages. Starting with the August solicitations with Betty and Veronica Friends 240 Jumbo comics, all Jumbo comics shown in the solicits from then on to the current solicits no longer have the logo Giant Sized and 320 Pages but 288 pages. Jughead with Archie Jumbo comics #5 is the last one coming in a few weeks that still shows 320 pages and Giant Sized. I will call Archie tommorrow and see if this changing as shown in the solicits.
  • spazaru: I noticed in the October solicits on Archiecomics.com, the Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics is only 288 pages instead of 320.  If that's true, that's kind of a rip since they just raised the price.  Hopefully it's not a trend, but just that issue.
  • JonInIowaCity: What I'd really like to see though is a series featuring Star Andrews. Or something featuring LWA's Jellybean Jones.
  • BettyReggie: I hope we get a magazine that similar to Life with Archie but focuses on Reggie & Betty & Veronica & Jughead,

why have there been no cartoons since Archie's Weird Mysteries?
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:03:22 AM »
that was the best animated archie series and yet nothing since then....guessing they don't have much of a budget

Offline B-ko Daitokuji

Well, it would be other companies making the show and fronting the bill for production, so I guess they haven't been interested sadly.

that sucks...the other archie cartoons are pretty terrible  somebody needs to make a good archie series or a reboot of weird mysteries since a standard archie series wouldn't be any different than an animated sitcom

The economy.

Animation is expensive!

(SIGH)

I'm still waiting for them to release the rest of the 6teen series on DVD. but..the economy.

Best Archie cartoon is Josie and the Pussycats!

Some of these shows would sell on DVD.  I think sometimes the broadcast licensors also gobble up home video rights and then sit on them for reasons other than making money from the home video market.  Definitely the case with Totally Spies and a number of other shows that have been on Cartoon Network I think.

The Kids Network Qubo will start airing Archie's Weird Mysteries this month so maybe that will stir up interest for a new series...probably not but it's better than nothing

Let's not forget about the new Sabrina series! We're supposed to see that next year. I'm really excited about it.

has much been revealed about that?

it just seems like Archie characters just aren't popular enough for networks to want to use them

Offline Steveinthecity

Wouldn't networks want to develop newer properties?  Something like the Archies brings with it quite a bit of history(baggage) and would be problematic if the creators put out a cartoon that strayed too far from the originals in terms of characters and genre.  Pretty high expectations would go hand in hand with bringing back such well known  characters, I would assume.

Apparently, some footage was shown at SDCC. There are a few stills online, it looks like a pretty big departure from what we've seen in the past.

Wasn't a live action Archie/Riverdale series planned for TV in 2005 following a talent search but was soon withdrawn and never made it to the TV airwaves?

Offline Captain Hero

Even if a new cartoon series was brought back, when would it air?  Saturday morning cartoons have been basically on life-support since the 1990s.  Do any of the three main networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) air cartoons anymore?  Unless they have an exclusive contract with cable, I can't see another cartoon being developed.

Yep. There was a big ad in several comic books around that time about a movie, TV show and possibly more. No idea whatever happened with that though. Same can be said for the video game that has been rumored to be in production for the past 6 years...

I was just thinking. Maybe a sitcom about That Wilkin Boy? I mean, you have two kids in love plus their dads hating each other. I think it could work on the CW. :)

Do people even watch The CW anymore?
