General Discussion / Re: The Waldenbooks in my mall is closing« on: May 09, 2013, 08:41:23 PM »Is the mall really in the middle of nowhere? The comments section on that one linked-page seems to imply that it is. Who in their right mind would build a mall with nothing around it? I suppose it might make sense back when the mall was built to have a "central mall" for various counties/small towns, but nowadays anyone with any sense builds retail locations where people actually live. Yes, it really is in the middle of nowhere, and it was built over 20 years ago, when the area was even LESS developed. The mall is in Crystal River, the city north of where I live. However, the main population center of the county is Inverness (which is also the county seat). That's further west. What I would have done was build the mall at the intersection of Homosassa Trail and State Road 44. That area is basically the cross-section of the county. It's a 10-15-minute drive from Homosassa (where I live), Crystal River, Inverness, and Beverly Hills, and Lecanto High School (which I attended) is close by. But no. It's out in the middle of nowhere. That means, if people are willing to sit in their cars for just a little longer, they can go to larger malls in Ocala (northeast of here) or Port Richey (south of here). 4

All About Archie / Re: Oh, the places you'll go...in Riverdale.« on: April 13, 2013, 09:31:43 AM »
In Archie & Friends Double Digest#24, there's a story called "From the Ground Up". Other than having a panel where Veronica is drawn with a regular nose (which actually looks weird on her), there's an Asian reporter from WRIV that's named Brenda Lin. She's shown riding in a big news van (WRIV is on channel 9). I know Riverdale has previously been shown to have its own news, but I figured I'd call attention to it. Riverdale HAS to be big - at least as big as Tampa.
There's the mayor's office, where Mayor Fodsnik works. There's the Riverdale Chamber of Commerce. 7

Last Wednesday, when I went to the mall to buy video games, I took two pieces of sticky paper and a pen and took detailed notes.
I had gone to the mall previously to see "The Avengers", "The Dark Night Rises", and "Skyfall". Here's what I've observed from those trips and my most recent one: First, the food court: A new coffee place, called Cool Beans, came and went, so the old coffee place is empty again. A sign had advertised the coming of a new soda place (I think it specifically mentioned root beer), but it never showed up. The old owners of Fuji Express came back and took over the abandoned China Max location, renaming it China Mix. I'm not kidding. The new "i" in the neon sign is slightly brighter than the rest of the letters. A Wrestling World store came and went next to GameStop. GameStop threw some boxes into the storefront, because the mall didn't feel like painting over the windows. Florida Non-Lawyer Services shockingly reopened - in another storefront. I can't imagine there's a market for this. The real estate company closed. Kacy's Portrait Gallery finally closed, and Cafe Impressions Gallery is using the storefront to advertise itself. A sign/advertising development company opened in the old camera store. Sears is still empty. So are Spencer Gifts, Rainbow, Finish Line, Waldenbooks, and a bunch of other storefronts (although they might have furniture in them or be used as advertising for other stores or to show off schoolkids' artwork). The arcade, candle store, t-shirt store, bear factory, and gem mines closed. The kiddy rides and Hurricane Simulator are gone. I'm no longer counting OfficeMax, since I don't think it's considered part of the mall. Now for the updated directory. A few notes: The circular walkway around the mall has two sets of stores. When walking counter-clockwise, the left-hand stores are the ones that immediately surround the food court, and the right-hand stores are...the other set. All stories in the circular walkway will be listed counter-clockwise, starting from the Belk corridor (no real reason for that; it's just where I happened to start taking notes on them). All stores in corridors will be listed counter-clockwise while facing said corridor from the circular walkway. All quads, kiosks, and misc. will be listed at the end of each category. All empty storefronts will be skipped. I'll simply note them in my totals at the end. Belk Corridor: Belk (anchor) Piercing Pagoda (kiosk) GNC Corridor (for lack of a better name): GNC Empire of E Cigs (kiosk) Payless Corridor (for lack of a better name): MasterCuts Pro Nail Spa Payless ShoeSource Get Memorable Radio Shack JC Penney Corridor: Precious Paws P.A.C. CRM Security (not a store) JC Penney (anchor) Father & Sons Hearing Aid Center Citrus Eq. and Repair Inc. (didn't note the full title) Ed's Watch and Jewelry Repair (quad) Kmart Corridor: Miracle-Ear (uses two storefronts) Kmart (anchor) K.G. The company posted its 4Q 2012 results yesterday. Net loss of $489,000,000 (or $930,000,000 for all of 2012). Mathematically speaking, it's as if the company hasn't made money since the end of 2004.

General Discussion / Re: No more mail delivery on Saturdays? It's true!« on: February 07, 2013, 09:56:40 AM »
I have no such thing as a weekend at work, so I don't care if Saturday delivery is cut. It means one less day that I'd have to walk outside to check the mailbox.
Heck, I'd be okay with delivery three days per week. Maybe Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
