Chapter One
“Reggie Mantle, you are wanted in the principal’s office.”
The overhead speaker screeched when the speaker signed off, and the whole math class erupted into laughter.
“Oh Oh Reg, you’re in for it again.” Archie Andrews crowed. He was happy his rival was in trouble.
Now I can take Ronnie out, Archie was thinking, happy to have Veronica to himself. Lately she had been going out a
lot with Reggie and Archie did not like it one bit.
“Too bad you’ll have detention, Reggie. Oh, Archikins, take me for a soda after school? I was going to have dinner with
Reggie, but he’ll be too busy in detention.” Veronica Lodge was never a person to let an opportunity to go out with Archie
and hurt Betty Cooper at the same time pass.
“Sure thing honey lamb. Sorry Bets, we can do our homework together another time.” Betty hid her anger.
I should have known she'd find a way to break our date!
"Sure Archie" she answered, always giving in without a fight. SHe was beginning to get very tired of how Archie ran after
Veronica. “Hey, I was good today. Don’t be so quick to write me off, doll. Wait for me.” Reggie got up and took the hall pass their
math teacher, Miss Grundy gave to him and he walked slowly to Mr. Weatherbee, the principal’s office.
“Good luck Reggie” Betty called to him in her sweet voice. He turned and gave her a smile and a wave. She could see he
was concerned. Something is strange here, she thought. Reggie had been on his best behavior so he would not miss
out on his date with Veronica.
After Reggie got to the main office and greeted Miss Styles, the secretary, he became afraid. She did smile or look at him as
she led him to Mr. Weatherbee's office. him, and she looked as if she had been crying.
“I didn’t do it Mr., Weatherbee. I’m innocent.” Reggie always pleaded his innocence before he was hit with definite evidence
of his prank. He just could not remember doing anything bad that day.
“Come in Reggie,” Mr. Weatherbee was waiting for him. Reggie stopped short when he saw his mother.
“Mom!” Reggie exclaimed. Her face was swollen and wet with tears. Reggie had never seen his mother cry like that before.
When she saw him, she opened her arms to him.
“Oh my baby!”
“What’s the matter? Where’s Dad?” He knew something bad had to have happened for her to cry like that. His father went
out of his way to make sure she had very few unhappy days since they were married. Reggie, horrified, ran to his mother
and flew into her waiting arms.
“It’s your father, darling. He…he’s dead!” She held him tight, finding it so hard to talk and tell her beloved child her grave
news.
“Dead! No!”
Reggie hid his face in his mother’s neck, sobbing, but no tears would come from his eyes. He felt as if someone hit him with
a sledgehammer and it just hurt too much for the tears to flow. His eyes burned and his stomach ached so bad, and he
could hardly breathe.
Then he pulled away from his mother, looking at Mr. Weatherbee to be sure this was all not a dream. When he saw that the
principal was crying as well. He knew it was really happening. His father was dead.
“What happened to him, Mom?”
“He… was rushed to the hospital and died of a heart attack. He'd been worried because Mr. Lodge brought out his loan on
the newspaper and the house and foreclosed on both. He left you and I a letter, hoping his life insurance would help, but
Lodge laid claim to the money and it had to be used to pay off our debts. Reggie, we're all alone and homeless. I can’t get
our money because the banks froze all of our assets.
"Dad's dead? I don’t believe it! Why would Mr. Lodge do that?”
"I don't know. Rick didn't tell me. I feel as if Mr. Lodge killed your father! No he did not shoot him, but he broke his heart by
taking everything from him. Your Dad could not live with the failure of losing everything. He worried himself to death” Mrs.
Mantle cried harder. Her husband always felt she was a fragile flower and always tried to shield her from any unhappiness.
Reggie hugged his mother again, but she and Mr. Weatherbee did not see the coldness that entered his eyes. He felt an
overwhelming hatred for Hiram Lodge at that moment.
I don’t know how, but I promise you that Lodge will pay for this, Dad. Reggie thought, a cold hard knot forming
around his heart.
For all intent and purposes, Reggie Mantle died that day as well as his father.

Which ones? I might of read them. One that i've gotten into on there has been Consequences and can't wait for the next chapter
Hi, Sorry, I can't say when I'm going to finish Consequences because I've been so busy since I have become an author. I'm glad you like the story, but I am totally blocked right now. I promise I will get back to it soon, though. I have the last book of a trilogy right near the end, so I will be ready to finish it by then. I hate unfinished things.

It took Betty 70 years to smarten up
I am sorry but I didn't quite get what you're saying...70 years??
I can help with that question. Betty has been chasing Archie for the whole 70 year history of Archie Comics. Hard to believe, right? That is why all of the fanfictio writers never want her chasing Archie for too long. It's time for her to wake up, permanently.

This is another reason why we need the alt forum. LOL.
Completely agreed. There should be a sister ArchieFans site that you have to be (I don't know; 13? 14? 18?) or older to join.
I say at least 18
Well that would leave me out. Aw, so sorry. That is just why I moved my story. One day...
It's O.K., I understand. Although I have probably heard worse stories by kids in my school.
I bet you have. I can remember the things were talked about when I was 11. But as a responsible adult, I need to be careful. We want you children to remain children for the short time you are a child. Enjoy it . Plenty of time for the more adult stories. I thought I had toned it down, but it was still too much.
Yep, most of the kids have potty mouths at my school. I sometimes think I want to be an adult, but then I look at my life and ay what the heck am I thinking.
You got it. Those of us that wanted to grow up fast regret it. Being a kid was more fun. Much less responsibility and more time to play. So enjoy yourself and be a kid. It's a very short period in life. That's why us old folks love Archie-we can be kids when we read them.

There are definitely days where I would like to be older, especially when I have a ton of homework or a big test to take. That can be a lot of pressure. Also the pressures of fitting in at school really sucks. But I also look at my mom who is a single mom and then realize the presuures she has to go through and mine are nothing in comparison to that.
You sound like a very smart girl. That's why it's better to be a kid. The problems seem huge but they're not as big as they are when you're a grown up, All you have to worry about is school and friends. Your mom has to worry about everything, especially you. Just try not to stress her too much, OK {) You soound like a good girl, though. Take care of each other, and if you have siblings, them too.
