I'm glad it went so well! I hope the second one does, too~
Not a lot going on with me today. We got new computers at work so everyone was trying to figure those out. Call me crazy, but I'd think that you wouldn't want to introduce totally new technology right as the busiest time of the year is starting up.
By my time, today is the big day for archiecomicxfan! I hope your date goes well!
Tonight I took the kids I babysit out trick-or-treating. One was a pixie princess, the other was a dragon. They enjoyed themselves and I got paid in candy so it was a good night for me! Now I'm gonna go back to trying to coax Penny out of her cage and into her ball
Finally got my hamster! Her name is Penny and she's currently scoping out her new house and enjoying her wheel
I also worked today. We were crazy busy last week because of a big sale, so I was thinking we'd be pretty slow this week. I was wrong.
I remember a story where archie was announcing news or something, and jughead got the cue cards mixed up and when archie was talking about a famous circus donkey mr. lodge's pic was up on the screen and he said "looks like that jackass is up to his old tricks again!" and when he was talking about mr. lodge leading in business the donkey's picture was up it was halirous! i'll post it if I can find out where I have itI actually have a digest with that story handy! Let me know if you can't find yours.

Yeah, a lot of the older stories had Betty and Veronica both coming at him with clubs
I agree that realistically, I never got why Betty and Veronica don't just dump him and find someone who doesn't cheat all the time. I've just resigned myself to accepted it as the Never-Changing Archie Status Quo, I guess
Not really related to the topic at hand, but I remember when I was little, I was reading a Sabrina story and she said Harvey was "behaving like a jackass" or something and I was pretty surprised. My mom had to explain that jackass in that context meant donkey

Archie - A lot of people on this forum seem to hate old Arch. I will fully admit that he's an insensitive clod who's clueless about basically everything, but I still find him endearing. At his core, he's a good guy, but he messes up a lot and that makes him more realistic and interesting to me.Do you know, his being a selfish jerk is not the reason I dislike Archie. A character can have negative sides. A bad person is not necessarily a bad character. The problem with Archie is, he does not make sense as a character to me. If Archie is supposed to be the character who is the every man, mediocre, boy-next-door, he needs to be bit of an underdog. A goofy and endearing boy we can root for against the entitled hot jocks. Archie should be the ordinary boy who works and schemes to get a date with an unattainable girl like Veronica. Why does he have all the hot girls fawning over his less than extraordinary self? Why does he always have to win against more deserving persons? Why is he so popular? He is not good-looking, not good at sports, he is a total clod, he is a horrible cheat... His winning all the time and getting everything he could want goes against the idea of the Ordinary Kid character. You know how in a chick flick or teen movie, the audience roots for the dorky girl through all her problems and humiliations, and cheers for her when she gets the boy at the end? Archie readers don't get to do that for Archie coz he does not need it.
Full disclosure, I haven't read a lot of the latest stories and I don't have a way to get a hold of many, so most of what I'm going on is memories from when I had more comics. I seem to remember that when Archie was sneaky and "cheating", he DID end up with people pissed at him, that being either the gag or the catalyst for the rest of the story. It's completely possible that I just have a selective memory, but it seemed to me that when he wins, it's because he's either being a decent guy or through dumb luck, but when he's actively malicious, it backfires and he gets what he deserves ¯\(º_o)/¯

Veronica - My gurl. She's the most interesting character to me because we see so much of her personality. In Archie's world of status quo, she's still a variable; you never really know what her role in the story is going to be until the end. Will she be irreconcilably selfish and snooty? Will she see how she's hurt her friends and do something over-the-top to make it up to them? Will she just start out the story as a cool friend and stay that way until the end? I JUST DON'T KNOW. I love her.
Reggie - I always either tend to really hate or really love the "arrogant" character in a series, and I love Reggie. He's similar to Veronica, in that he isn't just one-dimensionally good, though he's a bit more predictable in that his hero moments are pretty rare, but I love that about him, too. He also speaks fluent sarcasm and wry humor, that is irresistible to me. He'd probably just be tied with Ronnie if I didn't have a fierce childhood attachment to her.
Jughead - Probably the character I actually relate most too. We're both laid back (to the point of laziness most of the time), love food, don't really care about the opposite sex, and loyal to our friends. Though he has his moments, he just doesn't have that deviousness that I love about Ron and Reggie. He's a good dude, though.

Betty - Oh, Betty. How I wish they hadn't drained all of the interesting out of you. Don't get me wrong, I like Betty well enough, it's just that most of the time, she doesn't really hold my attention. It's rare to find a modern Betty story where she isn't either being good at everything or being sad and pushed around by mean old Veronica and Archie. I liked her when she was kind of insane and could get down and dirty when it suited her. She's just too squeaky-clean now for me to be too interested in her.

1. Mr. Lodge. The unsung hero of the Archie universe.
3. Mrs. Grundy
I also like the Pussycats, but they have their own stories so I didn't include them on the list.
I don't think there's a third one, the mummy is awesome too!
Alas. Unless you were saying that you refuse to acknowledge that it exists, too, in which case carry on.
Five more because why not:
1. Spirited Away
2. Singin' in the Rain
3. Harry Potter series
4. The Last Unicorn
5. The Blues Brothers
