Tonight we had a guy come through the garage (apparently driving a Lexus) who demanded that we refund his parking fee because Dewey's Pizza was closed. Apparently it's our fault that the pizza place closes early on New Years Eve.

My manager also said people were coming through on Christmas wanting their money back because nothing was open...

What did you do in each of those situations?

I didn't do anything in either situation - I was off on Christmas and my manager dealt with the guy last night. He basically told the guy that we can't refund his money because it's not our fault that the pizza place is closed.

Glad to hear you're promoting both comics and Archie in the classroom Smiley

I will check with my parents to see if they'd be willing to give up some of the ones we have in the basement that we never read anymore.

You might also want to check for "lots" on eBay - you can usually get great deals that way.

My local comic shop doesn't have any ancient digests - just fairly recent ones. Glad to hear you got it though - even better as a gift Smiley

Here's the website of the company responsible for Arabic Archies... www.teshkeelcomics.com

They opened an Ikea in West Chester (about 20 miles north of downtown Cincinnati) several months ago. Haven't seen that ad though Smiley

Correction: I saw this ad on TV earlier tonight...

How about Miss Haggley? She seems really sweet, but you rarely even see her.
23  Board Info / Feedback/Support / Re: Update on the hosting switch... on: December 30, 2008, 01:28:22 PM
One further update...

There will be some more downtime for approximately 20-30 minutes starting at around 2am eastern tonight. During this time I will be moving the site to its own separate account on the server, rather than having it as an "addon" for my main account.

I will also be setting up a new email account, webmaster@archiefans.com, which will be used by the forum for sending email (instead of the current webmaster@oldiesmann.us account).

Thanks for your patience, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you Smiley

We're on the new server now. Things seem to be much faster here Smiley

There may still be some minor downtime over the coming days as I further tweak things and move this site to its own account Smiley

Wow! I've never heard of Norm (probably because I'm not into superhero comics), but I'm really impressed with those sketches. Can't wait to see what's ahead with this Smiley

27  Board Info / Feedback/Support / Update on the hosting switch... on: December 28, 2008, 08:22:58 PM
As I mentioned previously in the Future Site Changes topic, I have decided to switch hosts in order to take advantage of a great deal that will allow me to manage all aspects of the server for $30 a month. I have now purchased hosting from the new company, and will be moving the site later this week. As promised, I will send out an email before I move the site to alert everyone. It will likely take a few days for me to get everything set up and configured the way I want it, so just keep an eye on this topic and your inbox for more details Smiley

If you want a great classic holiday film (besides It's A Wonderful Life), rent Holiday Inn featuring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. It's about a guy (Crosby) who runs an inn that's only open on holidays, and features many classic Irving Berlin songs including "Happy Holidays" and "White Christmas", as well as some spectacular tap dancing from Fred Astaire (perhaps the best example being the "Say It With Firecrackers" number...).
29  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Down memory lane: Cartoons and Series on: December 27, 2008, 11:23:50 PM
Speaking of cats, do any of you remember Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse? It was such a blatant copy of Batman and Robin. I think the only time I saw it was in school when it rained and we couldn't go out for recess. They stuck us in an auditorium and ran cartoon reels. I don't think I ever saw it on tv though.

We never got cartoons when we couldn't go out for recess - we just sat in the classroom and played games and drew on the chalkboard.

I don't remember that cartoon, but I wasn't really into Batman and Robin either.

I used to say that when I was younger, "Don't you believe it" - because I'd heard it in Tom & Jerry! I also LOVE (and still sometimes sing) all the songs from "Texas Tom" (can be easily found on YouTube), despite not having seen it for years.

Oldiesmann - I remember Zoobalee Zoo. It was a sort of kid's version of "CATS!", and the parrot-woman had a HORRIBLE voice. I loved that show while it was on because of all the singing and dancing though... and, the leg-warmers on the pink kangaroo were quite stylish as well! Smiley

Glad I'm not the only one who remembers it Smiley
