  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Archie in "The Cheer Leader" (spoilers)

Archie in "The Cheer Leader"

(SPOILERS)

This is an Archie story I found to be extremely funny and a little ironic.  Why ironic?  Because the whole story is about the word "D-uh", but Big Moose is not seen or mentioned in it.

It begins with Archie and Reggie in the school halls doing what seems to be a cheer.  They say, "Gimmie a D!  Gimmie a U!  Gimmie an H!  Whataya got?  D-UH!"  Miss Grundy is amazed at the sheer silliness, but it does strike her funny.  Mr. Weatherbee asks her what she is laughing about.  She tells him, but Mr. Weatherbee does not quite see the humor in it and tells Miss Grundy that she has a strange sense of values.  He then dismisses the joke as something that only Archie and Reggie would do.  However, he is suddenly aghast to see Prof. Flutesnoot and three other faculty members doing the exact same cheer.  Prof. Flutesnoot starts it off with "Gimmie a D..." and then they all join in.  Mr. Weatherbee is outraged and chases them all back to class.  But just around the corner, the Bee sees Betty and Veronica in the final stage of the cheer, saying "D-UH!"  He blows his top and tells them that's no way for young ladies to act.  Then he runs into Jughead, doing a solo version of the "D-uh" cheer.  Now, Weatherbee is completely infuriated and chases Jughead away.  Jughead is too scared to try it again, but Archie, Reggie, Betty, and Veronica are soon talking about how this cheer "bugs the bee" and they conspire to bug him some more.  "I'm a Bee bugger from way back." says Betty in a perhaps somewhat out of character moment.  So, the four of them stand in front of Weatherbee's office to begin the cheer.  They start in unison with, "Gimmie a D!"  Just then Mr. Weatherbee bursts out of his office and says, "I'll be HAPPY too!"  He then orders Miss Grundy to get her grade book and give them all the "D" they asked for.  Miss Grundy reluctantly complies to the horror of the four students.  Next we see Archie gloomily walking down the hall.  Jughead sees him and asks, "Hi, Arch! What's new."  He says, "Nothing to cheer about, Jug!"

This story was from a 1980's Digest I have, but I know it goes back much further.  I loved it!

I always liked the end-of-cheer panels where everyone sports a doofy face as they say, "D-uh!", as well as the action pose of the first "Gimmie a D" hop by Archie & Reggie.

Its an early 1960s issue of Archie (don't know which off the top of my head, but it wouldn't be to hard to find) You all should focus on collecting Archie from about #100 to #250 as a title  Its mostly Harry Lucey art with some of the all time funniest writing.

Where is that funniest Archie story topic? I've got some ideas for it, I meant to attack it when I got back from Chicago, clean forgot.

My all time top 5 favorite Archie artist are

5) Samm Schwartz
4) Bob Bolling
3) Harry Lucey
2) Harry Lucey
1) Harry Lucey

He was so great I had to give him more than just one spot on the list!

LOL!  I loved that story!  It just seemed so random.  Especially with Moose NOT being present in the story.  The faculty doing it was priceless!!!

I'm positive I've seen that story before - either in the digest or in its original form. I love Ms. Grundy's reaction!
