  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

Book Review: The Best of Archie Comics TPB
« on: August 29, 2011, 02:14:28 AM »
The Best of Archie Comics is a decent but flawed anthology showcasing the company's history and its cast of characters.  This does not include heroes from The Shield and Hangman to Sonic, who are being saved for a separate volume.

My favorite part about this book is that it does a fine job in displaying all the various Archie characters.  In addition to the Riverdale gang, there are stories featuring Wilbur, Ginger, Super Duck, Sabrina, That Wilkin Boy, and Katy Keene.  Credits are provided where available and most of the stories feature an introduction by an Archie employee saying why the story was included.

Of course, any "best of" anthology is bound to be subjective, and I found a few stories that I do not think belonged in this book, such as the story that was just one big ad for Archie merchandise and part one of the ridiculous "Love Showdown".

The biggest flaw for me was the reproduction.  It was inconsistent and while most of the stories look fine, a few were poorly scanned from the original comics.  The decade series featured better reproduction values.  And the purist in me wishes that the stories from Archie #1, Jughead #1 and Reggie #1 used the original lettering and not the modernized lettering used in the digest reprints.

Overall, it's worth the ten dollars it sells for.  It's a fine introduction to the world of Archie and it is worth a read.
