  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

Life With Archie: The Married Life #4 (spoilers)
« on: November 16, 2010, 12:54:07 PM »
Okay, I just got this two days ago. Here are my thoughts:

Veronica:

Mr. Lodge continues to act wildly out of character.

An employee sees Reggie and Veronica hugging, even though it was nothing romantic. I wonder if something will come of that.

Betty's suddenly in New York City. It's cute how she's drawn to the place in both continuities.

I like the realistic touch of Betty living off ramen noodles. The way that she demands meat, though, you'd think she couldn't afford a Banquet meal, which aren't that much costlier.

The more that I think about the "saving Pop's" aspect of the story, the more that it doesn't make sense to me. How is a Jimmy's Rocketship (Johnny Rocket's) and Dunk-A-Muffin (Dunkin Donuts, which has a different menu) gonna drive Pop's out of business? Why is the gang so dead-set against them? By the way that they talk, you'd think Riverdale doesn't have ANY franchise restaurants. At all. And they wanna KEEP it that way, goshdarnit! I live in a town with a McDonald's, Burger King, Hardee's, and Wendy's, and there's a small, privately-owned restaurant on my very street that's been there since at least when we moved here in June of 1986. Granted, the franchise restaurants are not right next door to it, but it's still surviving in a small town (smaller than Riverdale, likely, since we don't have a downtown or a real business district) with at least four franchise restaurants. My late coworker's mom, also, has had a nostalgia-themed restaurant in this town since at least 2005 (granted, it's now in another location, but there's another small restaurant in its old location now). Also, why does Pop have to sell right now? Why can't he just leave Jughead in charge as the manager, retire from actively running the place, live off the money that Jughead sends him for now, and sell the place to Jughead when Jughead has the money?

Betty:

Mr. Lodge continues to act wildly out of character.

Seriously, what is up with him actively ruining Archie and Betty's lives (getting Betty FIRED, no less) in the hope that Archie will marry Veronica, and that will suddenly turn Veronica into a good business leader? This plot makes NO SENSE. At all.

With all of the code violations that the inspectors find, it's a wonder that Ambrose was ever open for business in the first place.

Betty Cooper + Cheryl Blossom. It's inevitable.

This plot makes NO SENSE. At all.

That's not completely true.  In-universe it makes perfect sense from his pov.  He sees Veronica unhappy and unable to work right because Archie married Betty.  Mr Lodge thinks if he can break Betty and Archie up, he'll marry Veronica and she will be happy and productive again.

It's not a great plot point and one I could do without, but not liking it doesnt mean it doesnt make some kind of sense.

But Mr. Lodge knows that Archie knows what Mr. Lodge is doing. How could he still think that his plan of Archie marrying Veronica is going to work now? If anything, Archie is going to be completely deadset against becoming related to Mr. Lodge, and Archie would certainly tell Veronica what her dad has done.

Yeah, and it would make for a rather dull storyline.  Part of the allure of the Life With Archie series is the twists and turns.  It's like your everyday run of the mill soap opera.  Twists and turns that don't always necessarily make sense, but captivate the reader.

I know I'm excited to read the next installment.

Well I never said it would work, I said from Lodge's pov it makes sense.  My main point was to say you were confusing you not liking the plot point with it not making sense.

Hey, it's not a plot point I like either, I have no interest in the Archie/Veronica storyline I only read the Betty one and could really do without Lodge being so over bearing and involved, but it is what it is.

...I can't find an old line of mine so I'm doing this here :D
As I said - Are the two paralell storylines in LWA the " in-between " that must inevitably lead up to what was seen in ARCHIE #602 and #604 , or " other " continuities ?
Frankly , if they're the first , there would have to be an AWFUL lot of , at the very minimum , heartfelt apologizing/forgiveness  :police:!!!!!!!!!!!
