  • Biollante: probalby, but 59 percent is considered a "blow out" in political terms, some people are on shaky ground right now, there was evne a conservative pollset that worked for Bush warning people that if Republicans are against things like gay marriage in the near future, they would endure catastrophic losses, I don't know if it's this political cycle, but the paradigm shift already happened a while ago

  • Steveinthecity: When Thor pulls the hammer back to throw, his momentum stops. He has always been able to float or hover once airborne, and he'll remain until the hammer comes back to him.  I guess the winds keep him aloft.

  • Biollante: ok so shouldn't Joe Quesada know that? lol  It made him look a bit stupid imo.
    May 21, 2012, 07:57:37 AM
  • Jabroniville: Yeah, that's odd- Thor usually has the Hammer out in front. Though I don't think it's ever explained how he can throw it while in mid-flight and not just plummet like a goof. I wish artists would stop having him do things like that :)

  • Steveinthecity: @Biolante:  Thor uses the hammer to fly. He can throw his hammer during flight and float in one spot until the hammer returns to him. Don't know what Joe Q. was thinking there. I've never seen Thor fly on his own.

  • Biollante: Joe Quesada was drawing Thor on some Disney promo, and he drew him flying with his hammer on his side, now I'm not a Thor junkie, but isn't that actualy inaccurate, doesn't he fly by being dragged by his hammer???

Review of Archie #627 Archie Meets KISS
« on: December 19, 2011, 04:25:54 PM »
I bought this as a gift for a huge KISS fan and only gave it a quick read.  My only experience with KISS would be this:

Otherwise, my only interest in this would Sabrina’s guest appearance.  She was sporting her “modern” look in this story, which some fans may like as much as the “classic” look, but I actually prefer it.  (Must be my fondness for the TV show.)  The rest of the artwork was okay.

More problematical for me was that the whole Archie gang knows that Sabrina is a witch and that they are all part of sort of anti-monster club.  This all seems to beg some backstory.  Not to mention, in one scene, they’re all sitting around casting a spell.  First, this walks all over Sabrina’s character niche.  Second, it’s just really creepy, in relation to the rest of the gang, on several levels.  It’s like DC doing something uncomfortably weird with Superman, like having him threaten to renounce his US citizenship.  (Except that actually happened.  But then they rebooted the universe, so it never happened.  Sigh.  Comic books are doomed.)  She does mention later that shouldn’t have been casting the spell, but if it’s just a metaphor for kids getting in trouble, it’s a far stretch to attach it to real life.

If you’re buying this for a KISS fan, they’re not going to care about any of this continuity or character stuff though (perhaps most Archie fans won’t either).  The KISS fan might be more disappointed by KISS’ single scene in the book, where they run off after introducing themselves.  I trust they’ll be more interesting in the succeeding issues.  In other words, this series is being paced for the trade.

Anyway, monsters are unleashed on Riverdale.  Oh, sorry.  Spoilers.  (Yeah, like you’re reading this for the story.)  The stakes seem absurdly low for the drama, but by the end, Josie has made a cameo, as a zombie!  And she’s not alone.  Cheryl has become a drooling, hunched monster, as has Weatherbee, and even Lil’ Jinx.  Admittedly, my favorite visual of the issue is zombie Ginger walking into a lamppost.  I like Ginger and this humiliation was completely undeserved, but it was still funny.

My recommendation?  If you’re a KISS fan, or buying this for one, you’ve probably already got it.  (And judging by the reaction I got, they’ll love it.)  For everyone else, okay, it’s not Archie Meets the Punisher, but it’s an event.  Buy it and bag it, Fanboy!

I dunno what is says that a company as kid-friendly as Archie would hook up with a band as notorious as KISS (specifically their tendency towards groupies), but I find this hilarious on all levels. To think we'd see the day where the two would combine forces.

Hey, if Archie  can be pals with The Punisher, why not KISS? :)

I enjoyed it myself.  And keep in mind that a lot of people nowadays are probably being introduced to KISS through Gene Simmons' Family Jewels, which is a fairly tame reality show...so maybe that could explain the reason why Archie teamed up with KISS.

I really should show my Uncle Roger though...he was a huge KISS fan back in the day, and he might find it a hoot!
